Chateau Yering in Victoria, Australia

Set in the beautiful Yarra Valley, the heart of Victoria's wine country, Chateau Yering is a window onto Australia's rich past. This Relais & Chateaux affiliate once welcomed parties of Melbourne socialites seeking a country retreat. Just an hour out of the city, the stunningly restored mansion was constructed in 1854 using handmade bricks and cedar timbers from New South Wales. Its thirty-two individually decorated suites offer unsurpassed rural views while cozy guest lounges with open fires are the ideal place for reading, conversing with friends or enjoying a glass of Yarra Valley wine.

In this bucolic setting, you can savor fine local vintages at Eleonore's, a conservatory-style restaurant overlooking one of the finest rural vistas in Victoria. For relaxation, stroll the gardens, which were laid out by the founder of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, or walk around the river to Yarra Glen. Farther out, antique shopping, bush walking and wineries beckon. For an unforgettable experience, embark on a hot air balloon ride at dawn.

I booked a night's accommodation with dinner included for my husband's birthday. The weather was glorious so showed off Chateau Yering at its best. We loved it. I really appreciated the little details in the room- biscuits, coffee, chocolates, the "do not disturb" cat. I am also a fan of Appelles toiletries. We didn't have time to try out the claw foot bath though. Our dinner was excellent. The menu is quite limited but we loved everything. Our waitress was delightful. Breakfast the next day was also excellent. I'd definitely visit again.

Rated a 4.5 really. Staff were wonderfully helpful and polite. Took off half a point because they gave us a late check out but then rang at the regular checkout time to hurry us up. Poor communication meant that one glitch on a wonderful stay. Bed was firm but was 2 singles pushed together. Quiet. Amazing rooms. Friendly, genuine staff.

We had our first stay at this location last night. It was absolutely wonderful. Our room was spotless, and beautiful. There are so many features to this spot, a winery, wine tasting, lovely gardens, and the building itself is pretty special. Lounge areas to relax with open fires, a lovely restaurant, all set in the beautiful Yarra Valley.A perfect destination.

From the moment we visited CYH on our search for a venue to hold a special family celebration - right through to the actual birthday celebration we were impressed with the staff's professionalism and friendliness. We held an 85th birthday high tea in the Drawing Room - and it was fabulous. The room is beautiful and the fireplace, furniture, and in fact the whole set up created a wonderful atmosphere. The food was fabulous including that specially prepared for several coeliacs. Thank you CYH.

I'm sitting on the verandah watching the trees swaying in the wind. It's nearly check out time and I don't want to leave. This is my 5th stay at the Chateau and it never fails to enchant me. From the warm welcome at reception, to the luxurious rooms and exquisite cuisine, it is always consistently amazing. The surrounding gardens and vineyards create a unique setting and experience. I can't wait to be back again. Highly recommend a stay here.
