Yarra valley historical gem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We were more than pleasantly surprised with our two night stay at the Château. Staying in the original homestead we enjoyed a beautifully furnished room styled in the age and history of this hotel. Dinner at Eleanor’s restaurant was just brilliant. The food and service amongst the best fine dining I have experienced. 3 courses plus Canapés & house made bread (& house made butter to go with) were superb. Hiramasa kingfish, beetroot tortellini, beef cheek, pork loin & sumptuous desserts the orders for the day. Breakfast at Sweetwater Cafe each day was also a treat, again friendly and attentive staff once again looking after us. Without doubt this was the best value for money hotel we have stayed at in the Yarra Valley!

Chateau Yering revisited

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Situated in the Yarra Valley, historic Chateau Yering is simply beautiful. I returned to the hotel after 25 years and the house did not disappoint. The hotel has recently changed hands and I would like to thank the Hotel Manager and his team for their efforts to sort out any issues I experience. The De Castella room is stunning and has one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. As the hotel restaurant is not open everyday the room service lunch and dinner, were well presented, fresh and quite delicious! Breakfast is served in the delightful cafe and there is an extensive choice. I do not usually partake but as you can order until 10.30 I enjoyed an equally delicious "brunch" of eggs benedict. Members of staff Katy, Fiona, Tania and the housekeeping team, thank you. Hope to return again soon.

A little run down for the price.

Wanting to explore the Yarra Valley we looked for a hotel with a pool. On arrival we discovered the pool was not in use due to maintenance. This was super disappointing as it was the only reason we chose this hotel considering the weather was hot and it should have been transparent on their website. There was no discount offered nor any form of compensation. Whilst looking at past reviews the pool has clearly been out of action for some time. The pool surrounds looked unkempt and it was filthy. Whilst the mansion was probably fabulous in its hey day, it is now very worn and in need of an update. Staff were rarely around, when checking in no one told us where or what time breakfast was or bookings for dinner or that there was a games room we could use. Verandah outside our room was really dirty with bird poo all over the table and chairs and floor, there is no way you could sit out there. Breakfast was ok and staff were friendly with great service, but the windows looking out to the garden were unclean. Views looking over ranges were amazing but you could get same views from another less expensive cleaner hotel that advertises a pool which actually is able to be used to swim in. Way over priced and left with a feeling that we were subjected to false advertising.

Relaxing Stay..

Had a wonderful stay at Chateau Yering, which was recommended by a friend. The relaxed ambience of the whole area was amazing, and you can’t help but feel yourself beginning to relax as soon as you walk through the beautiful gardens. Our room was huge with all the facilities that you require, gorgeous comfy bed, and lovely bathroom with a great bath which these days is a rarity. Everything was spotlessly clean. It was lovely and quiet throughout our stay. The house itself is really beautiful with elegant furnishings and stunning ceiling in the lounge area. Breakfasts were superb, and we had a lovely meal in the Restaurant, staff were able to accommodate us with a window table. All the staff that we met were lovely, especially the Manager who really went out of his way to ensure that our needs were met. Only gripe was that the Pool was out of action, something my husband was a little peeved about, but he got over it.. We were so relaxed we forgot about the dodgy Wi- fi, and the small TV gave us a bit of a giggle.

I wish I had stayed here 6 yrs ago

This place has so much going for it, I wanted to give it a 5/5. But unfortunately, there has been no love given to this majestic property for some time. I'm sure 6 yrs ago it would have been a 5+, but not now. Beautifully renovated historical rooms, and cloud-like beds can't cover up years of under investment. Beautiful views, but most windows covered in grim and dead bugs on the window sills. Neglected gardens, knee high grass in the area that one of the photos on their website was taken. Pool was closed due to dead bird...... tennis courts looked more like a nature reserve....... The restaurant is a lovely room, and the menu holds promise, but doesn't quite deliver. The huntsman spider in the bathroom off the restaurant really was a extra that wasn't needed, and the Trainee Manager trying to charge me $5777791 at check out was a bit of a concern. I really hope this beautiful property gets new owners who appreciate what an amazing opportunity Chateau Yering is and give it a chance to shine again. A quick improvement would be WiFi.
