Overlooking three private and pristine beaches, The W Retreat & Spa is poised to become one of the Caribbean's top destinations. This exclusive getaway, located just off the coast of Puerto Rico on the island of Vieques, opened its doors in early 2003. Each of the resort's plantation-style guesthouses, featuring spectacular ocean views, recalls a traditional Spanish villa. The resort's wide array of recreational options ranges from tennis to eclectic bars, lounges and restaurants. When you're ready to play in the sun, you'll enjoy access to the island's ten breathtaking beaches, as well as unlimited use of snorkeling gear, sailboats and kayaks. Tours of the island's world famous bioluminescent bays and Kiani Lagoon can be arranged by an attentive concierge staff, who can also point you toward hiking, horseback riding, art galleries and day trips to Puerto Rico.

Reviews for W Retreat & Spa - Vieques Island
This place is splendid. Second time visiting and loved it again. The service is great. The rooms are very clean. The food, although pricey, is good and generously portioned. The grounds are well kept. You'll be spoiled from the moment the flight lands at the airport lounge. (They are the only hotel with a lounge at the airport) Refreshments are served while awaiting your jeep ride to the hotel. There's truly nothing to complain about here at all. The complimentary sunset sip is a nice touch and so is the coffee and fruit in the mornings. Rent a jeep here and roam beautiful Vieques. We are in love with this place Great job again!!

Upon arrival from Isla Grande, SJ to VQS airport via Vieques Air Link, the support staff at the W lounge was there to pour us a cold glass of rum punch while they phoned the concierge. A 4 door Jeep Wrangler arrived and whisked us away to the retreat. Check-in was simple and pleasant, baggage was transported via golf cart by the staff and beat us to our room as we enjoyed the short ocean front walk from the great house to our poolside villa. Our room was well appointed with a very creative layout. The aroma was relaxing as we set to unplug from our daily duties. From the morning kayak tours out to Corona reef to the evening âsipsâ around the fire pit, this place is amazing. Although the W has everything on site to make your vacation perfect including 2 private beaches, infinity pool overlooking the ocean and a secluded plunge pool in the garden; the on-site jeep rental provided convenient access to transportation, we selected a firecracker red 4x4 and set out to explore all that Vieques has to offer. Be sure to obey the speed limit as we found wild horses to be everywhere! There are many hidden beaches that are accessible by jeep around the island, on-site Blackbeard sports provided us with snorkel gear to take along on journey. We recommend traveling to Caracas Beach which is a short 20-minute drive from The W. The food on property was fantastic with SorcĂ©, the pool bar and The Living Room providing excellent dining options, we recommend sampling some of the local cuisine options at SorcĂ©. Evenings are magical as the creatures of the rain forest sing their tunes. We set out on a Bio Bay tour one evening through Blackbeard Sports (on-site), we were picked up on time from the property and transported to the biolumencent bay. We were issued life jackets and safety briefing and then assigned to our kayaks, we paddled across the bay with 2 guides. The water lit up like a firefly every time your paddle touched the water, truly an amazing experience! We paddled to the North end of the bay where we formed a kayak bridge for a short, yet informative discussion about the bay, its features and characteristics, led by the Blackbeard guides - The bio bay tour is something that CANNOT be skipped! Special thanks to Wally and the entire W team for making our stay memorable, we cannot wait to return!

We just got back from a week on Vieques at the W; really beautiful property on an insanely beautiful island. As with almost everything, the people are the ones who made it special. Almost everyone who worked there was gracious, generous and welcoming from the servers in the restaurant, to housekeeping, to the beach shack and the managers and the front desk (there were a few employees that were checked-out, but still perfectly fine). We got great advice from the concierges about what we should do on the island and got hooked up with a great biobay tour (really really stunning). We rented a golf cart at the advice of the gentleman who picked us up from the airport, and it was a perfect way to run around the island -- the beaches in the south, especially those that are harder to get to, are so beautiful. I went with my kid, though, and I think they should switch the family beach (which is very rocky) and the adult beach (which is not, I was told)--otherwise pretty perfect (my son was a little outraged at all the "Adult Only" amenities, but I appreciated that people who didn't want to be around kids had the option to do so. bring good bug spray.

We recently spent a week at the W Vieques --April 1-8. I can't speak highly enough of the incredible kindness of the staff. From Adrian's check in (and upgrade-thanks!) to John's breakfast service which included his personal notes on best beaches and places to watch the sunset (Yes! Caracas!). Adams yoga was a wonderful and welcome perk. All housekeeping staff were spot on. George from security was welcoming and gave us a great history of the resort and island. Nicole and Ana, who were new to the property, extended themselves incredibly to make sure we were taken care of in every detail. We were impressed with their knowledge of the property and their understanding of the artist who conceived of the tasteful and retreat like guest rooms. Another big thanks to Ana for her special recognition of my husbands birthday and her incredible sweetness! I won't say to much about what you can see in other reviews--yes bioluminescent bay, yes beautiful property, yes incredible food! And, while we were there on a rather quiet week, I appreciate a resort where guests don't throw belongings on deck chairs first thing in the am and instead people flow from pool to beach to island in a relaxed way. This place has a great vibe! If you are looking for a low key holiday you won't be disappointed. Thank you W!
