Reviews for Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort

A little below the Anantara’s standards

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We have been to Anantara Vilamoura for our golf holiday. We choose anantara as we have been to other hotels same name around the world and we appreciate so much the standards. Here in Alagarve is a bit below on what you expect from an Anantara experience. The hotel is a bit old and quite bare, everything but cozy. The rooms same, old but clean. The staff is nice but for instance we had 4 nights on 6 the room prepare for the night, the other 2 no preparation. No slippers in the room you have to ask for it, no body lotion and no vanity kit. I know all this are not essentials but they are some tricks that make you feel in a 5 star hotel. Another things is that the beautiful Victoria course in front of the pool is being digging up at the moment, so the view is not nice. But suppose this is momentary. Food is good. The pool is nice, even the pool staff is super nice. We ask to organize shuttle to golf courses and we have been supported every time. The average judge is good and recommended but lower your expectations

Bittersweet Experience..

We booked 4 rooms in the hotel to spend some days with my family. Despite arriving the first of our group, my mother-in-law, my wife and myself were the last to get our rooms attributed. It was even after the "official" check-in time of 15.00. It would have been nice to at least be offered a soft drink while we waited in the lobby. Arriving in our room, I notice that the safe is not working, so I call and inform the reception. After calling me back 3 times to make sure if I know how to use the safe, they finally send a technician over. The safe needed new batteries. My mother-in-law is finally given a different room number that does not correspond to the invoice during check-in. The next morning, we discovered that the bed in her room is broken and she did not sleep well. We inform the receptionist on the way for breakfast. On our return to the room, nothing has been done. We inquire and must insist to either change the bed or get a new room for my mother-in-law. She is finally given another room (the 3rd room number in less than 24 hours). During our stay, the access to the underground parking closed and we needed to park a bit further. The valet kindly offered his help, which I declined as it is a service I don't want to use in any hotel. This was also the occasion to celebrate our weddIng anniversary and a little attention was left in our room upon our arrival. On the 3rd day, some pastries were also left in my mother-in-law's room. We are very grateful for this, but all the rest left a bittersweet experience.

Nice hotel. Airy. Good staff.

Lovely hotel very grand. Rooms were nice and big. Although the spa was closed and we were not informed until we checked in which was poor. But the breakfast was lovely. Bar was nice. Staff were great. Big open airy spaces. There is a course being built at the rear of the hotel but this was just being shaped when we were there.

FREEZING pools and poor communication. Avoid if coming with young children!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Potential to be lovely but had so many issues and it’s only our first few hours here! We were emailed 5nights before our stay to be told we could not arrive and use facilities (as previously arranged at time of booking) because another group had booked sole use of the entire hotel! We had only booked it as we could get use of facilities from when we landed (9am) until check in as we were only here for such a short amount of time. So we moved to the next day and were promised check in as soon as we arrived as the hotel was not full-had to wait over 2 hrs. Rooms are actually a great size but we had family pool access rooms and they are so dangerously slippy! All 3 children have slipped and fallen over 5 times in the space of a half a day! Need mats or change to slip-proof tiles if having pool access to the rooms. Not enough towels in rooms. Pools-FREEZING. Absolutely cannot get in, and we swim in the English sea most of the year!Kids are just about bearing it for around 5mins (usually in all day every day when on holiday) and coming out frozen despite it being warm outside. Such a shame as they are otherwise lovely. Have been advised that this has been an ongoing issue (apparently has been like this for over a year) and that the adults pool is heated but as a family we’re not allowed to use it! When speaking to reception they advised that they will not resolve the heating issue and that we would have been told this-I 100% was not informed otherwise we absolutely would not have booked this considering we have 3 young children. They said that there is an indoor pool the other side of the complex but we’ve booked a holiday abroad to be outside not inside? Communication on the whole has been pretty bad-emails not replied to for days. Have informed them several times that we have dietary requirements and the first drink they served us had something in it! Definitely not worth the money and definitely not 5*.

Great hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This hotel is amazing, but what makes it better are the staff. So helpful and nothing is too much trouble and they provide service with a smile. The weather was not the best when we attended and many facilities were closed like the family pool and spa and the other restaurant., but it was still a lovely experience. Thank you Anantara Vilamoura for a wonderful 5* time.
