Spent four nights at An Lam Saigon River. Our butler Viet (not sure if it's her real name or not.. forgot to ask) was very kind and advised us with useful information. Complimentary breakfast was amazing. Besides breakfast they have solid local menu. It's hotel restaurant, so price is more expensive, but it's not too bad considering how much I spend on Vietnamese cuisine in my home country... or US / European countries. It is a monsoon season in Vietnam. So it rained everyday for few hours but I could see the sun everyday as well. Since I was with my pregnant wife we spent a lot of time in hotel, swimming, eating, and so on. We went downtown to get some massage by using their boat. People usually pay to do Saigon river tour but since we used hotel boat to get around, it was a big plus. So... here it goes. Pros. 1. Well cleaned room 2. Good food and service 3. Free boat ride to downtown (certain time only) 4. Good place to get away Cons. 1. Kind of far from the city (but we wanted to stay away from the city) 2. Somehow it ran out of hot water at nights (maybe upstairs people used'em all?) 3. There was a wedding photo shoot and a party. It got loud. FYI, whenever I travel, I use Uber a lot. But in Vietnam it wasn't realible.

We only spent 1 night at An Lam retreats, but it was amazing! The breakfast is a la carte and you’ll find a varity from European to Vietnamese breakfast. We booked a family suite for 3 people, and switched to a pool suite, def the right choice. The butler was so attentive. Since the whole facility is relative small (19 suites in total), the butler service seems to be more caring compared to St. Regis. If you want to visit Saigon, they provide complementary teas portion 3x per day with their speed boot. Which is more fun and faster than a taxi. I’ll be def back!

This property is not a 5 star resort. I would have a hard time calling it a true 4 star. The price is higher than top hotels in Saigon like the Park Hyatt. It is on the river which we thought would be quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. But it is not peaceful. Loud boats roared by 24 hours a day. My husband and I first thought that it was helicopters and planes at 3 in the morning but really it is the V8 engines on the boats chugging down the river. It is a commercial commerce river not a peaceful resort river like we have experienced in Japan. The price and the rating does not appropriately reflect the true nature of the property, amenities and condition of the rooms.

I can't fault a thing at this lovely small hideaway in HCMC. It certainly was a great place to retreat to after the craziness of Saigon. We were welcomed and looked after by super efficient and friendly Nga who made sure all our plans ran to schedule and managed to arrange a child-minder for us. The hotel itself is great if slightly out of town which is good if you want to escape the the chaos of the city but it takes 30 minutes by hotel boat to there there. A taxi by road will take 30-40 minutes if there is not too much traffic. It was a lovely spot to unwind and I almost felt like staying in rather than going to see the sights. Might have to stay longer next time. The hotel's food was also good and again a great location next to the river. This was our last hotel on our two week trip and certainly the most expensive. While it was great I do think that we stayed in as nice places with great staff in Hanoi and Hoi An for much better value. Given what you are paying here it would be nice to have more transport options (by boat) in to the centre of town.
