Hotel Wailea in Wailea, Hawaii

Hotel Wailea is an enviable destination-within-a-destination in the acclaimed resort community of Wailea where suites made up of coral and limestone walls, bleached white oak floors and sustainably farmed Ohia wood from Hawaii's Big Island feel like your own homey beach house. Even though the suites are equipped with SubZero appliances, dining options will lure you from your hillside retreat: Artisanal cocktails at The Cabanas are mixed with homemade syrups and sodas, and the Zagat five-star Capische? prepares every element in its gourmet marriage of farm-fresh Italian and French flavors from scratch.

Watch over the tropical coastline from your private balcony as the sun rises. Snorkel in tranquil waters. In the afternoon, indulge in a traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, which is named after the kneading motion a contented cat makes with its paws. Dine on roasted Shelton Farms chicken with Molokai sweet potato confit.

We loved Hotel Wailea, from the lovely welcome with leis and champagne, to when we left - it was wonderful. The room is stunning, spacious and modern. The bed is extremely comfortable. We loved that the patio door opened completely, so that your room can be continuous with the outdoors. The view from our room was lovely. The service was great, and the restaurant was delicious! Our only complaint is that we were able to hear other people within the same building, more loudly than we expected. But overall, it was a perfect stay!

We recently returned from a week at the Hotel Wailea, and the property exceeded our expectations on many levels. To begin with, the property is beautifully appointed; it must have been an older, very traditional Hawaiian property that had been completely updated and renovated. In other words, it has a great aloha feel, with all of the wonderful amenities that one could want. The rooms are gorgeous and spacious, with separate living areas, huge bathrooms, and nicely appointed kitchen areas which are convenient. The workout facilities are well done. We did the complimentary yoga, and it had tremendous views of the ocean. Our room also had beautiful ocean views from the lanai. What really sets this hotel apart is the service. It is discreet, friendly, and one has to wait for absolutely nothing. Whether it be a car at valet, a housekeeping request, the waitstaff in the restaurant, etc., it seems as though the hotel to guest ratio must be very high. Our rooms would be made up so quickly, which is so impressive considering that they were fully committed. Even the staff at the private beach area is extremely accommodating. We used the beach facilities for three days, including renting SUPs and snorkel gear, and they simply took care of everything. The complimentary shuttle service is outstanding. Every time that we asked for a ride someone was available, and when we called for a pick up, the shuttle was there often before we were even ready! We encountered only one individual in our time there that was not helpful, and I attribute that to the law of averages. Finally, do not miss the restaurant. We had breakfast there every morning as we booked through AMEX platinum. Everything is great, but I particularly loved the açaí bowl. However, the dinner menu is fabulous. It is a splurge, but worthy of a special occasion evening. This hotel is special. We had considered the Four Seasons as an option as well, which is also beautiful, but loved the size and feel of Hotel Wailea. We will return.

My husband and I are in love with Hotel Wailea. The customer service is incredible. We also love that it’s adult only! It’s not beach front which doesn’t bother us, as it’s away from the craziness and offers an excellent view.

We recently stayed at Hotel Wailea for a week using the AmEx Fine Hotels and Resorts Program. With this, we received a $60 credit each day for breakfast, as well as a $100 resort credit. We booked an oceanfront (073) unit. The view was incredible-overlooking a hill with wide views of west Maui, Molokini crater, and Kahoolawe. The resort itself is a lush private oasis-waterfalls flowing through (with koi swimming), manicured tropical plants, lit private pathways, and glowing lanterns hanging from the trees. The buildings are very quiet and the lanais are perfect for watching the sunset, whale watching, or just taking in an afternoon nap. The resort is set high upon a hill with about a mile or so distance to the beaches-directly leading to Polo Beach and direct access to other resorts in the area. We loved doing the downhill/uphill trek down to the Wailea Beach Trail to get in some exercise each day. As we had our own rental car, we did not use the complimentary shuttle service, but we saw many other guests using it without any issue. The location of the resort was perfect-close to many resort restaurants on the beach, shopping center, and beach activities. It was also situated conveniently to the airport (about 35 min), Paia (Mama's Fish House-about 35 min), and Lahaina (about 40 min or so). We really enjoyed our breakfasts each morning-the food is fresh, presented well, and the service was wonderful. Try the avocado toast-the marinated tomatoes are unreal. We did eat at the restaurant on our first full night there, and we really enjoyed our meals. We also enjoyed light lunches and drinks at the pool-the drinks are fantastic and the truffle fries are some of the best fries I have ever had (I am still dreaming about them). We visited several other "luxury resorts" in the area for mostly dinners, and we were able to get an idea of what they were like during our morning hikes. At first, we were a little unsure of not being directly on the beach. I have to say, after spending time at Kea Lani, Four Seasons, Andaz, etc....we were so so glad that we stayed at Hotel Wailea. If you are looking for a private, quiet and peaceful vacation, then this is the spot for you. We left the resort (although sadly) feeling rested, recharged, and thankful to have been able to experience Maui this way.

Came here from the UK as a birthday treat and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. It is set in a large garden area with loads of space between the buildings in this adults only atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and allow for relaxing. They lay on a number of activities which you should make use of. From the mixology session to different types of yoga and the weekly jaunt out-on an outrigger. We had a car but still made use of the free local shuttle(on demand!) most nights. The pool area is perfect and not over crowded with seats available everyday. Everything is clean and well attended to. Instead of calling out individual names I think it’s only fair to say that everyone here does a fantastic job to make it a stay to remember.
