Hotel Wailea in Wailea, Hawaii

Hotel Wailea is an enviable destination-within-a-destination in the acclaimed resort community of Wailea where suites made up of coral and limestone walls, bleached white oak floors and sustainably farmed Ohia wood from Hawaii's Big Island feel like your own homey beach house. Even though the suites are equipped with SubZero appliances, dining options will lure you from your hillside retreat: Artisanal cocktails at The Cabanas are mixed with homemade syrups and sodas, and the Zagat five-star Capische? prepares every element in its gourmet marriage of farm-fresh Italian and French flavors from scratch.

Watch over the tropical coastline from your private balcony as the sun rises. Snorkel in tranquil waters. In the afternoon, indulge in a traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, which is named after the kneading motion a contented cat makes with its paws. Dine on roasted Shelton Farms chicken with Molokai sweet potato confit.

We spent two lovely nights in this paradise of a property. Rooms were spacious with a lovely view of the sea. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were top notch! We loved the way this beautiful resort is built into the hills, with bridges over cascading streams. Very friendly, helpful staff too.

We booked this hotel for three nights because we desperately needed to relax. It was pricey -- ~1,000/night after taxes -- but everybody seemed to rave about how the property is secluded, serene, and peaceful. So we hoped it would be worth it. Simply put, it wasn't. To be clear, there are things this hotel does well. The grounds are gorgeous. The restaurant is delightful. But ultimately, at the end of the weekend, my husband said that we should not stay here again during our annual Maui trips; we could enjoy the best parts of the property by simply dropping by for dinner and going for a stroll. I couldn't agree more. What happened? Frankly, a lot of little things. And while I realize they are little things, I'm sure you understand that little things add up, especially when you are paying ~1K/night. For example: - We ran out of toilet paper. To be fair, we did ask not to be disturbed on one of the three days we were there, so we did not receive housekeeping service on that day. But I frequently do this and have never before had an issue; hotels typically provide you with extra rolls. Not so here. - Our baths were cold. Our room had a great bath and we wanted to use it. Unfortunately, however, the water ran cold on two out of three nights. - We were needlessly disrupted by staff twice while trying to relax. The first time, I was trying to take a nap in our room (this is when the do not disturb sign was on) and the housekeeper was jamming out to some music while she cleaned. I don't begrudge anyone music while they work, but it's surprising to me that it was so loud and it seemed entirely unnecessary given the fact that she could have used earphones. The second time, I was trying to relax at a pool cabana. I was literally the only person at the pool (staff or guest). Shortly after I settled in, a member of the staff started cleaning my cabana and instructed me to move. Taken aback, I did. But I didn't want to -- I was comfortable -- and I don't understand why he couldn't have cleaned any of the other unoccupied cabanas first, as opposed to giving me the heave ho. Perhaps most disconcerting, though, is what happened after we left. I sent the property an email in which I asked for an itemized bill and offered to share with them constructive feedback about my uneven visit (i.e., my first instinct was to give them the above information in a private forum so that they might have an opportunity to improve without the sort of public shaming that inevitably happens with this kind of TripAdvisor review). In response, they sent me my bill but they were radio silent with regard to my offer of feedback. I'm not sure what to make of this except that perhaps they are not interested in improving the experience for other customers going forward, in which case I wish you all the best if you decide to stay here.

We spent our first two nights as a married couple here having got married at Olowalu Plantation House, before heading to rainy Kauai for our honeymoon. And what a perfect start to married life! My parents live on Maui, so we had eaten at the (exceptional) restaurant a few years ago & I am so glad we choose to stay here after our wedding. The staff couldn't be more friendly, especially the breakfast servers, the food is excellent & the pool service second to none. If you want a peaceful, secluded escape from the hustle & bustle of the vast sprawling resorts down on the coast, you cannot go wrong with Hotel Wailea. We only wish our 'guest duties' had allowed us to spend more time here/ our post-wedding wallets had allowed us to pass our honeymoon here...! It was heartbreaking to leave, & we will be back. Thank you Hotel Wailea for helping us celebrate in style! Many happy memories.

I debated staying at this hotel. It was off the beach, small, and I was concerned that we wouldn't enjoy being this secluded. I was wrong. This was a boutique hotel paradise. When we got to the hotel, valets rushed to help us and directed us to the lobby. We had champagne while our host walked us through check-in. The room was not available, so we went down to the pool to have a drink and relax on a giant sun bed. About 20 minutes later, another of the front desk staff directed us to our room. And what a room! Each suite was bigger than my first apartment, and almost as well-equipped. We even had a lanai where we sat in the mornings drinking coffee and planning our day. There are only about 70 rooms on the property, which makes for an intimate experience. We met so many other wonderful couples just lounging at the pool. Every member of the staff we encountered was very attentive and happy to share information with us. The hotel has a private car service that will shuttle you everywhere in Wailea, including the nearby beach where they have valets set up chairs and umbrellas just for hotel guests. Too tired to venture far the first night, we ate at The Restaurant, which was amazing - great seafood and a stellar wine and cocktail list. We ate breakfast here most days as well, and the staff is amazing. One of the waitresses (sorry, cannot remember her name) was so sweet, and had the BEST smile. It is quiet, especially after 10, so if you're looking for a party resort, keep looking. This has the intimate feel of staying at a friend's home - a very well connected friend. Yes, it's spend-y. Yes, you do pay for extras. But you also get what you pay for, and we felt the value was over-the-top there. Cannot wait to go back! Yes, it's spendy -

Best vacation ever and mostly because we choose to stay at this amazing resort! My husband and I spent months deciding on the best resort in Maui to stay at/ spend my 40th birthday. Choosing Hotel Wailea was the best decision EVER! From the serene setting (no children on property yea), to the amazing customer service, to the on location restaurant (eat there during sunset), to the front staff recommendations for excursions to all the little details around the property- this resort is by far the best resort I have ever stayed at! I cannot wait to return!
