Set in a remote but beautiful location, it's well worth the drive to get there. However if your budget can stretch to a helicopter ride it's only 10 mins from Wellington. The cottages are generously sized with every comfort you would expect and more. The staff really are lovely and we were made to feel like the centre of attention with every interaction. Their style is relaxed yet professional and nothing was too much trouble. The meals were produced with the freshest of ingredients by a team of top class chefs. Had one if the best massages ever here too! It was very quiet when we visited - perhaps a little too quiet for us but a fabulous place to relax or celebrate a special occasion.

One of the most beautiful places my wife and I have had the pleasure of visiting, hosted by a warm and welcoming staff that tailor your entire experience specifically for you. The cottages are clean and up to date with modern amenities designed to feel like a rustic chateau. The food on site is exquisite. The chef is working with only the freshest ingredients, balancing local flavors with Michelin expertise, in tandem with a passionate sommelier who offers some of the best wines NZ has to offer. From the moment you arrive, the reception is that of an elevated country ease with a touch of luxury. This is a destination worth whatever journey lies between you and Wharekauhau. But above all else, you feel like you're part of the family every passing second you're here.

This is not only a beautiful place with impeccable service but it is also an amazing gastronomic experience. The villas are quiet and spacious and equipped with all the amenities you can think of. The hotel is off the beaten path but is definitely worth the detour. Wharekauhau is the perfect place for a get away whether it be to simply relax and enjoy the place or as a luxurious base from where to set off on various expeditions.

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend at an exceptional property, to celebrate my partners birthday. Even though the weather was wet and windy, we thoroughly enjoyed walking down to the beach to experience the lovely scenery, and then return to the warmth and luxury of our suite to watch the wild weather outside. From the moment we arrived at Wharekauhau Estate to the moment we left, we loved our time there and found all the staff to be warm, welcoming and funny. On our first night there (my partners birthday) they organised for us to dine privately in a little sunroom, with a roaring fire warming the room, candles, and a delightful atmosphere. It made our birthday celebrations really special. We had enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the main living room area, again with a large fire going and many soft sofa's or chairs to relax in. Approx 10 guests all gathered together for the drinks which was nice. The games room upstairs has plenty of games to play plus a pool table and an indoor pool at the back of the property, and there are several little nooks to relax and read in around the lodge. Our suite was warm (with under floor heating throughout), a king size bed, gas fire , huge bathroom with a deep bath that has a view to the ocean, and expansive views out the living room window also. It is warm, romantic, comfortable with lovely little touches of luxury such as home made cookies and fruit available, bottled water and a range of tea's and coffees, bath salts and luxurious bath soaps etc. The food is exceptional, with much of it grown in their own gardens and the wine is sourced from boutique wineries as well as the larger, more well known brands. Even the afternoon tea home made tarts were amazing! All of it was delicious with unique flavours and combinations from both the food and wine. We want to particularly mention the staff - Richard, Grant, Nicolas and the ladies at reception and serving the food. They are all extremely accommodating, friendly and funny. They treat you like family rather than an anonymous guest. we enjoyed a really memorable weekend here and hope to return again one day.

Have just experienced the most relaxing weekend celebrating Bastille day with the fantastic staff at Wharekauhau. Amazing Bastille dinner and wine pairing Friday night with a very entertaining and passionate host. The weekend was relaxing with great weather Saturday and Sunday and just what we needed after busy few weeks. Can't recommend it enough for a place to get away from the stresses and switch off and be looked after by wonderful staff and surroundings. Can't wait to return.
