A few days away

The hotel building is stunning and our superior room was comfortable, clean and quiet and the bathroom facilities and over bath shower was well maintained and worked correctly. The staff are very friendly, efficient and a real asset to the hotel. The food we had was very good for evening meals and breakfasts, with a good choice available. We've stayed at "Hand Picked" before and whilst they are a little more expensive the location, service and facilities are worth the extra outlay. The few days we stayed at Ettington Park was very comfortable and a great experience. With the high temperatures we are having this year the air conditioning made for a comfortable bedroom environment. It would be beneficial to extend air conditioning to the dining rooms and whilst they do have floor standing fans to help, with such high temperature and large windows for the sun to bake in, these only help a little. The hotel has a decent pool etc., however access to this is up and down steep stairs and a narrow corridor and not for those who may be less agile. The staff can provide accessible access through other doors if requested but, the overall access really needs investment and a rethink to make it easier and more appealing to use.

Great!

Enjoyed a great two nights at this hotel. Lovely peaceful grounds, a beautiful building and helpful and friendly staff. Rooms were well equipped and the Spa area was great. We also enjoyed some of the treatments which were great also. Breakfast was lovely and the evening meal on the one night we ate here was enjoyable. Recommend and will return.

Afternoon Tea.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We had afternoon tea at Ettington Park hotel. Although it was all very nice, that was about it, just nice. We have been before and really enjoyed it, but this time it seemed to have lost its point of difference. A small quiche, sandwiches, scones and cake, with tea, which is the usual afternoon tea, but no more. I will post the actual menu and the one on line, this does show how it’s changed, even quite recently. Less savouries and sandwich fillings a little downmarket. Sweets were ok, and similar. As I say, it was nice, but so are so many other places, with some offerings just that little more. I don’t think we will visit a third time.

Woderful historic Hotel, but with new additions.

My wife and I have stayed in the old part of this fine traditional building on two occasions, and some friends kindly took us back for old times sake just for a drink and a wander in the grounds. There have been changes to the layout that we remembered, and it was sad to see that the lovely large Lounge has now become the main restaurant. The resident's louge is now very nicely furnished, but rather small. Our welcome at the hotel was warm and friendly, and we would certainly like to return again in the future.

Hugely Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This used to be a beautiful place to visit or stay but has now become a sad image of its former glory. The interior has been ruined by trashy white paint covering the beautiful stone in the reception hall and stair case. The reconfigured reception rooms are awful. Only having the tiny Oak Room as a lounge is horrible, it was so much more comfortable when the library and “ball room” were used as lounges. It was really unpleasant to see at lunch time that tables in the Library had not been cleared from breakfast service. Dirty plates and cups/glasses on tables suggests very poor management. Once upon a time the hotel had super staff that mirrored the high end price tag and exactly what one would expect from a decent country house hotel. That is something that can not be said now. Staff ranged from rude to intense, odd to just inappropriate. Just far too much wrong with this venue. Would we visit again? Would we recommend? Highly unlikely. Huge disappointment and a waste of time and money.
