I just spent four days with a global senior leadership team in the most idyllic setting with generous service. The team at the Mayflower Grace help create a working environment that enabled us to focus, be creative and roll up our sleeves in the conference, whilst still feeling like our every need was taken care of. I sometimes feel buildings of great beauty come with stuffy, formal staff and expectations - this is definitely not the case at the Mayflower Grace. The suite I stayed in was exquisite. Not all the rooms have been renovated, but even the older ones have beautiful character and beds to die for. I only wish I had a few more days to relax and explore the grounds. I did manage to fit in a spa treatment, which was fabulous. The staff are highly professional and very genuine in their advice and recommendations. The hotel is definitely popular as a weekend break from New York, but I'd say a best kept secret is their ability to run meetings during the week that bring out the best in the participants. Finally the food created by Executive Chef Issac and his team was delicious. We had a variety of different themed breaks and finished with a formal dinner. It's a good job they have two gyms and fitness experts on hand to help me manage the calories. Thank you everyone at the Mayflower Grace.

We stayed one night in a superior category room in the main inn. The inn itself is beautifully decorated with nice touches everywhere. The staff were attentive and pleasant. Our room was spacious and clean with couch, arm chair, writing table, full dresser, four poster bed with canopy and night stands. The bathroom had two sinks with a large tub in one room and a walk-in shower and toilet behind a sliding pocket door. The only complaint I had was the mattress. It was cratered on both sides so you felt like you were sleeping on a side of a hill. We had dinner and breakfast in the main dining room - the food was absolutely delicious! My wife booked a massage in the spa and said it was lovely. She also took an aquatics class and enjoyed that as well. We are already planning our next visit!

Back in the mid-2000s, the Mayflower was an amazing place -- a hotel that felt like a rich relative's luxurious country house, complete with lovely art on the walls, beautiful objects and little touches in the rooms and public spaces, real log fires, flowers and the most comfortable beds, linens and towels you could imagine. It was magical; very expensive but worth the splurge because it felt so unique. Just back from a return visit 10+ years since our last one, and while it's still lovely in many respects (and just as expensive), it's not what it was, and I have to believe it's because the new owners, Grace Hotels, are not putting sufficient money and attention into maintaining the property or the rooms. At the price point, you don't expect dirty walls, a cracked bathroom sink, missing grout in the shower, blank walls in the room, a dirty rug in the elevator, cracks in the flagstone walkway to the spa (and missing lights), etc, etc. Yet, we saw all of that and more. I really wish it were different. That said, it still rates 4 stars for an exceptional staff and truly lovely spa. Every one of the people we encountered, whether at the front desk, in the bar, spa or elsewhere, couldn't have been more friendly, helpful or professional. They deserve a property that shines as much as they do. Perhaps it was the room we had, although it looked upgraded in some respects, but it lacked any charm or unique design touches (other than books). Signs of wear and tear were in other places, too. While the main public rooms are still comfortable, they didn't have the same aura of effortless and comfortable luxury that I recalled from the past. We did have two meals in the bar, both of which were good, and I have to say the bartender made the best vodka gimlet I've ever had, and the bar itself remains a cosy spot. And as noted, the spa is exceptionally lovely and we enjoyed top-notch massages by their excellent staff. So I hope Grace steps up to the task of bringing the Mayflower back to what it was and making it a truly 5-star experience once again.

Our teenage daughters were staying with friends for the winter break so my husband and I took the opportunity to play "empty nesters" for a couple of days. The 2-1/2 hr drive from Boston was easy and upon our arrival we were greeted with two delicious and greatly appreciated flutes of blush sparkling wine. We had arrived early so we walked around the property and relaxed in the cozy library for a few minutes before our pre-scheduled high tea service. The tea sandwiches were fresh and perfect savory bites while the desserts made for delightful sweet treats to accompany the pots of tea. We ate on the glassed-in porch, set among wicker furniture and lush plantings, as the week's stresses melted away. The service was excellent and everyone at the inn could not have been more helpful and cordial. After tea we were surprised with a generous room upgrade. The room was large, well appointed with interesting reading material and included a spacious bathroom and walk-in closet. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the amazing spa that is tastefully decorated in soothing blue and white tones. We highly recommend the duet massage treatment (Marci and Staney were our fabulous masseuses). We also enjoyed the steam room, whirlpool, cardio equipment and swimming pool all afternoon. It was only when we realized we needed to get ready for our 7:30 dinner reservation that we reluctantly tore ourselves away from the beautiful spa sanctuary. Before dinner we started with drinks in the Tap Room (my husband LOVED his "90 Miles from Manhattan") and then adjourned to the dining room. I suggest asking for a table nearest the windows. The bib salad, foie gras, turbot and rib eye were all perfectly done. It was such a nice way to end a fun-filled day. The grounds at the Mayflower Grace are beautiful, the spa is top-notch, accommodations are attractive and the restaurant is imaginative and tasty. But the greatest lasting memory for us is how welcoming, professional and courteous each of the staff members was toward us. We are eager to return in the spring, when the Shakespeare Garden is in bloom, and we can enjoy the walking paths and outdoors even more. Book a stay with your significant other at the Mayflower Grace; it is a beautiful place to reconnect with your loved one!

I came to the Mayflower Grace for a weekend getaway and it was a lovely experience. The staff was gracious and welcoming, the suite was spacious and well-decorated, and the spa was truly stunning (both the services and the facility - stay for lunch and order the lobster roll)! Loved the live piano at the restaurant during dinner and the fireplaces made the whole space feel so cozy. Overall a fantastic weekend and welcome respite from the bustle of NYC.
