Great property, location and staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Well located, Check in was easy and quick. The capitol suite is an excellent value for money room and the service specially the housekeeping was excellent. Food options are limited in the hotel but that’s okay as they are located close to DuPont Circle which has lots of options.

Great stay.

This was a wonderful hotel with attentive staff. The Ambassador Suite was superb and very comfortable for relaxing and talking with colleagues. The staff cleaned every day and left ice and bottles of water. I liked their green policy of not changing towels unless asked. They also eliminated plastic room keys using compressed cardboard keys. The water was in paper cartons.

Incredible hotel staff

Had a great time with my family when we stayed at this hotel last month. In addition to my previous review where I talked about how excellent Sudi was, I also wanted to say that the lady from housekeeping and the bellman were both incredibly friendly and professional. They made our stay a lot better.

Luxury Six Night Stay at the Fairmont

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I stayed in one of the two Magnolia Suites for 5 nights and a Deluxe Room for 1 night due to a flight cancellation. I had a room package with the suite which included breakfast. The hotel is situated in Georgetown which is a beautiful neighbourhood and has many bars, cages, restaurants and shops to choose from, some of which are upscale. The nearest Metro Station is Foggy Bottom which is convenient for the airport and all of the major attractions and neighbourhoods of Washington. However, you can walk to many downtown attractions from the hotel if you are up for the challenge. One day alone, I walked just over 14 miles. My suite had recently been refurbished and was extremely spacious, well equipped, clean and comfortable and included a Nespresso coffee machine, electric curtains, light sensors for the ensuite bathroom, a six seater dining table, sofa, chairs, sideboards and two bathrooms with luxury Le Labo toiletries. My Deluxe room was clean and comfortable but was obviously a transformation from the suite. Breakfast was buffet style and the food and drink offerings were varied and of good quality. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. There is an option to have breakfast a la carte, which is chargeable. I did not use the courtyard as the weather was inclement for the duration of my stay. The lobby and bar areas were comfortable and spacious and I had my Welcome Drinks at the bar, which were Verve Cliquot. I did not use the gym or spa, but the gym seemed to be popular with local residents as well as guests. The best thing about my stay was my interactions with the front desk staff, who made my stay really enjoyable. So a personal thank you to Kelli, Pip, Sudi and Sayed. I thoroughly recommend a stay at the Fairmont as its location is perfect for exploring Washington and is much better value for money than the downtown equivalent hotels.

Such bad customer service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Shockingly bad service! I travel with my husband and 4 kids, including 1 child with special needs and I always require adjoining rooms because of this. If a hotel won't guaranty adjoining rooms, I book elsewhere. The Fairmont reservation agent I spoke to over a month ago confirmed with the hotel front desk that we would be guaranteed an ambassador suite and an adjoining double for 4 nights over Easter. I confirmed via phone with the front desk before our arrival. At check-in we were told by Kelli, a manager, that adjoining rooms were "only requested and not guaranteed" and they did not have the rooms we had booked. After some efforts, they downgraded us to a corner suite with an adjoining room. It was very tight, but we decided to deal with it since it was Easter weekend and we didn't have many other options. The room on the corner was unbelievably loud due to traffic noise, I didn't sleep at all. I called down to the front desk to say we couldn't stay in that room. They didn't offer me any other options, but were fine with me checking out. I was shocked! Ian at the front desk was apologetic, and generously comped the double room, but we were now without a place to stay for the rest of the weekend. After a day of sight-seeing and frantically calling other hotels, we went back to the Fairmont to retrieve our luggage. My husband asked the front desk if they had ANY adjoining rooms available because we were desperate at that point. They said they did have 2 adjoining king rooms and could add cots to fit all of us, but because of the low availability, the rooms would cost DOUBLE what we had paid the night before. It was 5pm and the rooms were empty. Thankfully, we were able to find last minute accommodations at the Watergate and spent the rest of our weekend there. I travel constantly for work and with my family and I will never stay at a Fairmont again. The whole experience really put a damper on our Easter weekend.

The entire staff at the Fairmont made us feel welcome: the waiters in the breakfast room, the car park attendants, the housekeeper, the servers in the lobby restaurant, and the people at the front desk. We enjoyed all our meals there, the quiet room, and the readily available taxis. The location was great! We’d definitely stay there again with the Signature luxury perks; we enjoyed them all! We’ll be watching for more hotels at our desired destinations to pop up again in the future…. Thank you for always promptly answering our emailed questions; so reassuring.
