Reviews for The Normandy Hotel

Clean and comfortable

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Smartly decorated room modern room, comfortable and clean, and kind staff. The Normandy doesn't look as modern on the outside as it is on the inside. There has been care done to the renovations. The bed is comfortable and the room itself (a double) was perfect for two people without feeling crowded. The staff is helpful and kind.

Excellent staff, great utility

Clean, well-managed, relatively central location in an upscale neighborhood surrounded by embassies. A few minutes walk downhill to Dupont Circle metro station and a 15-20m ride to National airport. For my purposes, it was perfect. Wasn't looking for bells and whistles. Just a clean, quiet room in the right location for a hastily-planned 3-night stay. Based on the price, I assumed it would be spartan... or perhaps only superficially "nice", with a thin veneer of elegance that one typically sees overmagnified on the websites of any hotel. I was wrong. While the room might be considered small to some, it was very comfortable and clean. The size is typical for late19th and early 20th century architecture. Those who seek huge rooms will have to make massive trade-offs with price (if they want to stay in DC) or distance (you'll end up in a Day's Inn in the suburbs). The bathroom was very large... and the shower had excellent water pressure (this is a personal hang-up of mine). There was a fridge, Keurig, and ironing board/iron in the room, all of which I used. I didn't use the TV, so I cannot speak to what was offered there. I only have two small negative notes on the room itself: (1) there did not seem to be a way to control the temperature in the room (wasn't really a problem) (2) the wi-fi was very slow... so make sure your data-plan is good-to-go if you need to use your phone as a hotspot. Now what surprised me is that the hotel, overall, is a genuinely nice place. It has a subtle, old-fashioned class to it that doesn't announce itself. This is made apparent in its cleanliness, the staff's professionalism, and in the understated aesthetic to which it adheres. The concierge desk was particularly impressive. Each one I interacted with, any time of day or night, was earnestly helpful, authentic, and professional. Four walls and a roof, in the right location, at the right price--- that was why I chose this place for my harried work trip. The incredible staff, and overall, reserved unostentatious polish are why I'll stay here again.

Perfect for a long weekend

Great stay! The hotel was comfortable and luxurious, breakfast was delicious, and staff was kind and welcoming. It was walking distance to restaurants and the Smithsonian National Zoo, which was a major plus. Highly recommend staying here.

It was my husband and I first time visiting DC hence our first time at this hotel. The overall experience was wonderful. The hotel is super clean. It was centrally located. The bed was the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in at a hotel. The pillows were fluffy and comfortable as well. The staff were super friendly and courteous.
