Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood, California

Tucked just a block off the bustling Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, the Mediterranean-style Sunset Marquis is the ultimate urban refuge. This exclusive hideaway, which completed an expansion in 2008 by adding 40 brand new villas, a full service spa, and a re-launched restaurant, invites you in with lavish accommodations nestled on almost five acres of verdant gardens, 4,000 trees and plants, and koi ponds. A favorite of the hip and famous since opening in 1963, the hotel has hosted some of the biggest names in music and film, as well as discerning travelers from around the globe. Not to mention it's likely the only hotel you will visit with a state of the art complete recording studio. The magic truly does happen right here, at Sunset Marquis.

Los Angeles has it all, from the Getty Museum and the beaches of Santa Monica and Malibu to legendary shopping on Rodeo Drive. Explore the city's sights or simply luxuriate at the hotel, boasting two swimming pools and its own on-site recording studio. Drop into the Marquis' Bar 1200, where it's not unusual to find celebrated musicians. After a hard day's work, pamper yourself by indulging in a relaxing massage at the spa. And if you are going to live like an A-lister, you might as well eat like one - at the Asian fusion-inspired RESTAURANT at Sunset Marquis, where Michelin-starred chef Guillaume Burlion designed a menu befitting a king, Grammy or even Oscar-winner. Guests can also take pleasure in one of the brand new villas, including a 3,000-square foot luxury Presidential Villa.

This would be a 4 or 5 star review if this hotel didn't charge $700-800/night and up for their rooms. First the good. Its a lovely oasis of verdant tranquility with their gardens just off the sunset strip. The beds are comfortable and rooms spacious- albeit outdated. The bad. If you're here for business, good luck. Not only do they charge $12 for internet each day but the internet is horrible. Could barely get work done. Second, the room designs are funky. Closing and opening the bathroom door is nearly impossible with where they've placed the hangars for robes. Third, I get this is Hollywood but the over inflated sense of importance this place exudes is gross. We called trying to find out information about a reservation our company made and were given a lecture about how many celebrities stay there before helping us out. Try the Sunset Tower up the street. Much better and cheaper.

It was a birthday week in LA, a chance to see friends, visit the beach, go to some museums, eat well, and chill - and there could not be a more chill hotel imaginable than the Sunset Marquis. This was like the exquisite little European oasis of your dreams, yet it’s one block off the Sunset Strip! The place is quiet and unfussy; our 2-room suite with a small terrace overlooking the pool was so comfortable we didn’t want to leave; service was friendly but also completely buttoned-up. There are many pretty outdoor books to sit in. All the preliminary birthday arrangements (flowers, champagne) were taken care of, hard-to-get restaurant reservations were gotten, they even reserved a table for us right by their restaurant TV to watch the Oscars. I’ve never had a better hotel experience.

We stayed 6 nights at the Sunset Marquis. The hotel has the perfect location in West Hollywood in between infamous Sunset Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd. However, it doesn't feel like you are in the middle of a busy city. The hotel has a lot of trees and greens and is perfect for a quiet stay in LA. Food at the restaurant is good, but a little bit overpriced compared to other hotels/restaurant in the area.

I have stayed at the Sunset Marquis several times and I always love it. It's got one of the coolest vibes ever. This rock and roll themed throw back to the 50's is the place to stay for all you rockers out there.

We loved the unique ambiance at the Sunset Marquis. You don't feel like you're in the midst of a big city, it's very peaceful. It's almost like two different hotels - the original section, three floors of suites built around the main pool just off the lobby, and the villas, which are clustered in several separate buildings deeper into the property, amid lush vegetation and winding paths with an almost tropical feel. Located on a dead-end residential street, it's quiet. There's a dimly-lit bar just inside the entrance, and a lovely restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating in the villa area. And, while you might never know it, there's a recording studio underneath it. We had a one-bedroom villa, on an upper floor (each building has two units up and two down). The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge. There's also a separate, smaller pool for the villas, which I preferred as it felt a bit more private not being surrounded by people's rooms. Service was very good throughout.
