The Greenbrier mixed history, elegance, relaxation and business perfectly along the Appalachian trail. We were there for a meeting but found ourselves relaxing and taking advantage of all the resort and area have to offer. From fantastic food, to more outdoor activities than you can imagine, along with attentive and friendly staff and beautiful surroundings, a really wonderful experience

Spent a half day. We took the Bunker Tour and saw the grounds. Beautiful property and really interesting history. Recommend the tour for anyone interested in history

We went to the Greenbrier for a day to enjoy the spa, lunch and the bunker tour. During our spa visit, our masseuse noticed that one of us had a bandaged finger, and suggested we go to the clinic onsite since we suspected it may need to be stitched. However, the staff at the front desk informed us that the clinic was for overnight guests only, at which time we asked them to check with a supervisor. They told us the administrator could not be found and was not picking up their phone. We left, and went in town to the urgent care. Since we had spent the entire day and a good deal of money during the course of our visit, we would have appreciated a bit better treatment than to be dismissed like that.

We knew this was pricy but wanted a memorable and first class experience for a special occasion. WOW—a big disappointment ensued! First—the room. We opted for a more expensive cottage suite. The carpet was totally stained (pictures attached), the grout in the TINY shower was disgusting and the curtain on the shower was ripped and so dated! (Photos attached). The first night we went to the steakhouse on the property. We were treated to a wine switcheroo. We ordered a bottle and when it came it was 4 years off the printed date on the menu. We reluctantly went with it, as did not want to have a hassle. Asked if the price was the same and we were told it was. BUT when the bill arrived, it was $20 more. Not a big deal but with an establishment like The Greenbrier this should not happen. It certainly did not instill trust. And when we told the wait staff of this, the “wine guy” disappeared and left a VERY young waitress to deal with the fall out. The next day we had a swim in the indoor pool—which was clearly lovely in its day—a day that has long passed. Sadly, the once-beautiful tile work was filthy and the pipes rusted. As I swam around noticing these things I actually hoped I would not come down with an infection and that they at least tested the chlorine levels! The following night we went to The Forum for dinner.—the Italian-themed restaurant on site. Got the meatballs for an appetizer and they were so salty it was unbelievable—and this is from someone who LOVES salt. But apparently they made the lasagna I’d ordered from the same meat—by now I’m sure my blood pressure must have been off the charts and I could not begin to have another bite. Room service was also a problem. We had to call and ask that the mini bar be restocked on the second day. After waiting more than an hour, we left for dinner. The next day we had a similar experience with ice not being refreshed and again had to call and wait for 20-30 minutes. The golf course (Old White) was lovely and the staff was great. But the building really needs attention. Everything in it looks TIRED and worn and rather shabby. The spa was also showing its age—and the personnel is great; friendly and caring. But there seems to be no concern about keeping up to date or modernizing—in both technique or decor. On the positive side, I found the boutiques quite nice and bought several items. Again, the staff was so accommodating and friendly that it made me sad that the hotel is not living up to its end of the bargain. To summarize, this resort, billing itself as “America’s Resort,” needs to up its game in a SERIOUS way. It’s letting down its guests, but more importantly, its employees—many of whom have been there for years and years. Spend your money elsewhere—you will certainly not get a good or fair value at The Greenbrier.

Last weekend we celebrated a milestone anniversary at the Greenbrier for 4 nights and left feeling a sad sad disappointment that this once wonderful beautiful historic hotel is now in SHAMBLES. We have been going to The Greenbrier for over 35 years… we KNOW this Hotel and all its grandeur having experienced Thanksgiving, many Christmases, New Years , 4 th of July, Summer , milestone birthdays and parents anniversary and now this time the past last weekend, over the years always sharing our wonderful times with everyone! Where to begin with the critical repairs needed and customer experience would be exhausting…we always stay in cottages…unfortunately they are disgustingly dirty with paint chipping , mold, doors and wood trim and hardware falling off and wood rotting. The landscaping and hardscapes, pathways of stone, asphalt are crumbling everywhere on property … it’s a liability! The Shoppes have NO inventory except Yarids. We never complained about the expense due to the wonderful memories over the years but now it that IT HAS has become an eyesore and it is hard to JUSTIFY THE COST… no pun intended. We were disappointed in the customer service from non English speaking dinner hostesses to service in dining rooms. Only positive was the food at Sammy’s, Prime 44 and room service was good. Spa experience was good but way overpriced…The Greenbrier has truly been neglected and needs a new owner and MAJOR renovations. We were bringing our entire family next summer but now have reconsidered due to recent POOR experience…left a bad taste and truly feel sorry for all the employees who have been there for years and are treated badly. I hope the management doesn’t respond with a penned response of passing this feedback on to higher up because it will fall on deaf ears. We are now looking elsewhere to vacation and make memories with our family…but will truly miss the the property because of its natural beauty and ONCE A beautiful Historic Hotel….

Regarding our trip to The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, what a treat! From beginning to end we felt like we were in heaven. The place is gorgeous, the food is tremendous, and the staff just outstanding! Our kids, aged 8 and 11, rank it as the best vacation ever...and that is saying a lot! We will definitely return...
