We took advantage of the off season rates after Labor Day and felt like we had the resort all to ourselves. As a result, our room overlooked the James River, and we didn't have to wait for dinner at Eagles in the club house on a weekday evening and the indoor pool was relatively empty before dinner. Our room was very clean and well appointed -- with a fridge. Keep in mind that because the rooms are in separate structures, you will likely have to walk outside for vending and ice and drive to resort amenities, such as restaurants and pools. We even found an umbrella in the closet, which was an added bonus for the one rainy night we had. The only negative is that we ran out of time to enjoy the spa and outdoor pool.

The resort is very nice with many great attractions. The pools are nice but getting to the pools are a pain as the river pool has no parking near it and requires a good bit of walking which is rough with a toddler. The rooms are very nice and clean but the bed was rather hard in my opinion, which seems to be the norm for most resorts/condos. It was well situated for visit historical areas.

We stayed at the resort Aug. 20-22 The best part, by far, were the pools! All of them were beautiful and clean. And we loved the fact that the river pool was open so late in the evening! However, due to the tiny size of the room we had, lack of accessibility, and long wait time for shuttle back at the end of the day from the river pool, we were overall disappointed. The room: We got the basic regular room as we do everywhere we go to keep the costs reasonable. The room, however, was really tiny, to the point that we regretted booking it. We always get the "regular" (not deluxe) rooms at other hotels and its fine for our family, but this was way too small for us with our two toddlers and a baby, way smaller than a regular hotel room at all other hotels we have stayed at. It was also impossible to get into the room with a stroller (plus there was no room for a stroller). The entrance was on the side and required a sharp turn, and there were way too many stairs even though it was on the first floor. When booking I asked if it was accessible, and they did say it's not fully accessible since there were 2/3 stairs. Usually that's fine with picking up a stroller, but there were a lot more stairs here, they were narrow, and there was a sharp turn to get into our room. The hotel staff knew we had a baby and we were surprised they put us in such an inaccessible room (there were other regular rooms which seemed a bit better since they didn't have the sharp turn from the side entrance). Check in took exceedingly long while front desk staff were answering countless questions about attractions from people ahead of us in line (I mean literally, it took 10 minutes I think for just one family to understand all of the different activities while we were waiting to just check in). There should be a separate line for those who just want to check in and get to their room (and have restless kids) without too many questions. While most times the shuttles and charts came by fast, a few times it took way too long. In particular, we waited by the river pool for more than half hour for a bus back in the evening of August 21. Overall, we loved the grounds and the pool and have not seen the more elaborate rooms, which may be much better. So our review is very specific to those in the "regular" rooms.

My wife and I stayed here for a night and I must say I enjoyed every second. The resort is beautiful with plenty of amenities. The rooms were spacious, well maintained, and with plenty of amenities. I'd definitely recommend it.
