An amazing place just south of Playa Del Carmen and there are a few along the coast but Esencia has that boutique hotel feeling to it where your stay is completely tailored to your liking from the morning complimentary coffee and pastry to the turned down service at night. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the rooms are fully appointed. We stayed in the main building , room 703 and 701 which were roomy, more like suits facing the Ocean and the Pool with spacious balconies where blue feathered friends visited every morning. There are new additional Ocean facing rooms that looked almost complete and probably should be ready by December, The Main house has a great salon/ sitting area/ Library with great Art/ photography and fiction books lining up the shelves. Two restaurants serve delicious Mexican fare. There's a fully equipped gym, morning Yoga session and two swim pools. The staff is where Esencia really shines. Super friendly and attentive without being overbearing or stuffy. Always ready to help with a smile. Daniel kept us hydrated all day at the beach. Another high light is the Spa where I highly recommend Karen for her combination of Reflexology, sweetish and Thai massage that is sure to unlock and vanish any tension and sets you in the right frame of mind for such a place. The hotel has a beautiful stretch of beach with the perfect combination of powdery sand, coral reef and turquoise water. One of my best vacation experiences

Esencia has it all: big beautiful rooms -- our very quiet room had a big nice bed, separate sitting area, walk in closet, big bathroom with two sinks, shower (with two shower heads), bathtub and private outdoor area with a plunge pool. Our room was in the garden area and it felt like being in a tropical jungle. excellent service -- most of the employees (waiters at restaurant, concierge, beach waiters) remember your name and greet you when they see you; towels and drinks brought to your palupa on the beautiful beach; great service at the restaurant; very helpful concierge incredible beach -- the nicest I have ever seen -- clear warm Caribbean water, clean white fine sand, small fish (good for snorkeling), no crowds, great straw covered comfortable palupas great food -- the food at the restaurant is very tasty and pretty healthy (except the deserts of course) nice touches -- breakfast brought to your room each morning; no restaurant bill to sign or tip to figure out; really good books and movies to borrow; tea and cookies every day in the afternoon in a beautiful common room All that and a celebrity staying at the hotel when we were there (and she was very nice too). You couldn't ask for more.

We stayed here the week of October 8th, and let me tell you, it's one of the best tropical resorts we've ever stayed at. This place has a white minimalistic feel, and provides just the right design touches you expect at a 5-start resort without it being too flashy. The service was exquisite. Things like waking up to fresh coffee + croissants without even hearing them set it out for you on your patio. It's just there. I'm a serious coffee drinker, so this was fantastic! Or ALWAYS having a beach hut - literally almost no one on the beach except a few groups. Instant towel service and full menu and bar to your liking. Ah, I miss it already. The only minor downside was some construction noise going on at the south side of the resort, which is expected to end Nov. 1st if I'm not mistaken. They are adding an additional restaurant + beachfront suites. The staff knew it wasn't ideal for the current guests so it was softened by Kevin Wendle, the owner, giving us a nice bottle of tequila during our stay. As you can guess, this helped a bit. ;) I couldn't hear it from my room however, just in some areas of the common area of the resort. When the construction wasn't happening, it was so peaceful. Having no other resorts immediately next to Esencia helped. Lastly, I'd like to thank the AMAZING staff. Without you, Esencia wouldn't be the first class kinda place it is. A few honorable mentions: Daniel - thank you for your charming stories, your cocktail lesson, and now great friendship. Talk soon! Damion - dios bo'otik! You're so generous and have such a kind heart. We will miss you! Jonas - you were great! Thank you for the spectacular service. Yves - your charms never let me down. Thank you!

This is not my first (or last) visit to Esencia. Every trip proves more wonderful than the last. Owner Kevin Wendle has not missed one detail, one corner, or one moment to delight you. From the arrival in chicest reception palapa, to the variety of momentos left on the bed at turn down, the hotel team has crafted experiences to warm and please the most stressed and tired souls. There are 11 brand new gorgeous rooms on the beach, all with the taste level of the original. Some with views to heaven! The new restaurant Mistura housed in a brand new palapa, brings Peruvian style to Mexico care of well-known and loved Chef Dimitris Katrivesis, hailing from Athens. (separate review coming). The current dining experience is also elevated, with more choices and options to eat healthy, or indulge in the best desserts prepared on the coast. And for my brethren oenophiles, an amped up great list should you desire. My favorite rooms are the upper floors of the main house that have some of the original charm but with renovations and design that rival any 5 star hotel. They are so considered they don't overwhelm the rooms, but provide comfort while looking fantastic, Don't miss the boutique where you can buy some of the pieces you see in the rooms and around the hotel. Or get some unique beach wear. The concierge is trained with a "no limits" mentality and can organize excursions quickly. And they are nice as can be. If anyone leaves Esencia not feeling at peace with oneself and the world around you, I recommend therapy!!!!! Esencia is a paradise. Nothing on the entire Riviera Maya or Tulum comes close.

Hotel Escencia was simply magical... the property offers a unique combination of warm authentic Mexican service and charming accommodations, with a bit of fashionable European flair and a stunning beach that rivals the best in the Caribbean! If you are looking for a boutique experience that is secluded away from the big-box hotels of Riviera Maya and the packed beaches of Playa del Carmen, I'd highly recommend Escencia! Don't miss their watermelon margaritas or delicious ceviche! I look forward to returning to the property and hopefully staying in one of their gorgeous beachfront suites and also trying out their newly expanded restaurant!
