Esencia has one of the best beaches in vicinity. The water was clear and warm. I'm very fussy about beach conditions, and it met them. The hotel is beautifully sited, and the service was superb. The public areas are very pleasant, and the rooms are spacious, though not that many have water views. Many rooms are in the "jungle." I would stay here again, though I have a few quibbles: The two swimming pools should be refinished, as they look rather tired. Second, the food was a bit monotonous and bland. Management should really offer more Mexican dishes, especially at dinner. Also, drinks tend to be on the weak side, so tell them to pour on the Tequila. It is a very expensive resort. Still, a very, very nice stay.

We've traveled near and far and I have stayed in a variety of lodgings, many of them 5 star, although deluxe accommodations are absolutely not a requirement. Hotel Esencia combines the purity and simplicity of a small establishment with the impeccable service and surroundings of an exclusive resort. I have never stayed at a place quite like it. And that's why, when we consider traveling elsewhere on our precious week away from the kids, we have chosen Esencia 4 years in a row, with hopefully a 5th this summer. Kevin Wendel took over this property after 3 of our visits. We were concerned that this change might spoil our secret paradise. On the contrary, Kevin has only improved this property. He is such a gracious host; we feel as if we are visiting his private home rather than a hotel. The service is phenomenal and the food is our favorite anywhere in Mexico. Short of traveling several days to the Maldives or Greek Islands, Hotel Esencia is the best beach vacation a traveler could ask for. As for anyone who is concerned about not having a room right on the water, go elsewhere. Really, you are missing the point of Hotel Esencia. Or book the Oceanview suite. Hotel Esencia is a full experience; a state of mind. You will not be disappointed.

I just spent two nights at this amazing hotel and could have stayed on indefinitely. Everything about this hotel is perfect from the friendly, helpful, courteous staff to the spotless well appointed rooms and the gorgeous grounds. I was there with my high school daughter but look forward to returning with my husband. The food, both in the restaurants and on the beach, was amazing. The juice bar had great juice and smoothie options, the cappuccinos were perfect and the cokes, served on the beach had ice cubes made of coke! We dined at the two restaurants, for dinner, and enjoyed our meals at both. No detail goes unnoticed, every luxury has been thought of. The beach is beautiful and the chairs, towels and cabanas are perfect. Though the hotel was almost completely full, we were amazed at the quietness, and saw very few other guests. We loved the peacocks and the iguana that wander the property. The pastries and tea or coffee delivered to the room are a nice touch and perfect for me as I waited for my teen daughter to awaken, for breakfast. It was difficult to leave this paradise, after only two nights there. The day after I arrived home, I opened up Modern Luxury Interiors Atlanta Magazine (Winter 2017) and found a four page article on the Hotel Esencia. I take that as a sign to return to the hotel as soon as I can! Hotel Esencia, keep on doing what you are doing. It is perfect!

We stayed for 3 days after a tour around Mayan sites. Hotel is just great. We had an Ocean suite with balcony overlooking sea and this was perfect. Pools are well looked after (although they are going to need some remedial work before too long). Staff are continually clearing away towels, sweeping up leaves, offering drinks, putting out folded towels, etc. Staff ratios are high and they could not be more helpful. Beach is secluded with lots of staff sweeping up the seaweed that had blown in. Food was pleasant but did not quite match the standard of the rooms and pool. Biggest issue was price of the food. One night we had the BBQ option; this was priced at nearly 100 dollars US each which for Mexico is really going something. Elsewhere in Mexico food is around half UK prices but this was very steep. Would not want to detract too much from the fact that this hotel is one of nicest we have ever stayed at - but they need to be careful not to overprice themselves. One other quirk is that when you go to get your bill to check out you are told to go to the Casita at the hotel entrance to pay your bill. Sounds ok? Well, this is about 400 yards from reception and not at all convenient. This is a recent change (before you payed at concierge in the main hotel building) and one that staff were themselves bemused at and unable to explain. Needs a rethink! But still a great hotel!

I didn't review this hotel right away, because I really just wanted to keep this experience to myself. But they deserve all the 5 star reviews that they get. Even before I arrived, the concierge was so helpful. He allowed me to pull off a perfect and restful vacation with two toddlers. The hotel arranged a babysitter that was seriously like Mary Poppins. And I'm someone who usually leaves my kids with family only, because I'm so picky. She allowed us to go to dinner at night, and she watched the kids as they slept. She watched them one afternoon also, while we went to the spa. The rest of the time we had fun family time at the beach. And what a beach it was! I don't think if I've seen better. The beach beds were like heaven on earth. Perfect for those like me that love the beach but fear the sun. The pools were also very nice, and my daughter swam for hours. And the food...I have to say every single thing we had was top notch. The guacamole and fish tacos were favorites. Even the fish sticks they made for the kids were so fresh and delicious. The cocktails were incredible. And yes I think we tried them all. We have been trying to recreate them at home ever since. I could go on and on about this place. They have a very high level of service, which makes for a truly relaxing vacation. I consider myself very lucky to have this experience. And I doubt if any other beach vacation would top this.
