Upon arrival guests are offered a damp towel to refresh, a glass of cold tea and a lei of flowers. The grounds, inside the property walls, have green lawns, little ponds outside the rooms and a beautiful swimming pool. They also have 2 peacocks. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, complete with mosquito netting. Beside the king-size bed in out room there was a sofa, coffee table and large armoire with a TV. There is fresh fruit on the coffee table. The staff is friendly and courteous. When we returned for a second stay, they offered us a bottle of wine in our room. We don't drink, so they sent us a tray of cookies and candy instead. The restaurant is expensive and caters to what they think Westerners want. We found it to be rather expensive, especially for the area, and only OK for the food.

We thought we had entered another world when we arrived here in this colonial style hotel. The welcoming garland of jasmine and the chilled drink handed over by the charming staff was just the beginning. Our room was beautifully appointed, the beds bliss and the bathroom huge, there were a load of welcoming goodies waiting for us, a chilled bottle of wine, fruit, home made cookies, complimentary soft drinks in the mini bar to name a few. The grounds were spectacular including the proud peacocks. Unlike some we were not disappointed with the cuisine. We were attentively taken care of by Jack in the evening and the choice at breakfast belies belief, there was nothing that was not available and the staff as helpful as could be. We spent one night here on our way to Myanmar and were able to leave a bag behind so we did not have to take it with us. On our return there was a delightful note saying 'welcome home' and indeed we felt as though we were coming home. We attended a cocktail party where the staff mingled with the guests on a lawn lit with an array of parasols in various clolours and sizes, this was a magical sight. It is hard to single out a particular member of staff but Papa won our hearts over. If we return to Yangon one thing is certain, we will make a bee-line back to this hotel. Another advantage is the proximity to the Shewagon pagoda, we walked there for the sunset which took about 20 minutes and were whisked back by taxi within 5. As said in the title, everything was more perfect than perfect

We spent 2 nights at the Governor's Residence on a long weekend break from Singapore. We had thought about staying at the Strand due to its central position and history but were so glad we decided on the Governor's Residence - it is such a relaxing place - fabulous staff. Beautiful heritage teak building with welcoming swimming pool nestled around the main building. Great spa too. Fabulous lush gardens. Delicious food including evening Burmese curry buffet with so many options. Great situation for visiting the Shwedagong Pagoda for sunset as only a few minutes away by taxi. Highly recommended.

Stayed at this property for 1 night. The property is a lush oasis in Yangon, in a great location with an amazing staff. The rooms are well appointed, clean and incredibly comfortable. The staff are absolutely amazing, I had travel issues with the local airlines and the staff rebooked, refunded and produced a new ticket in less than 30 minutes. The restaurant is top notch as is the gift store. For my first visit to Myanmar, the Belmond Governor's Residence is incredibly memorable, thank you to the staff for creating a magical experience

Green oasis in the Embassy Quarter, very quiet and relaxing, good service, wonderful historic rooms, good breakfast and food, unfortunately no gym - but planning one, very nice pool and good spa. Overall very recommendable.
