I've stayed here twice now. It is really beautiful. A private island with a great private beach, wonderful cottages and a quick ferry ride (ferry always available) to the main island of St. Vincent, which I love. My question is, why is the staff so miserable. The waitresses at the restaurant are so rude it's painful. The bartender is this big gruff guy who never smiled once in the 6 days I've spent there. It is finally enough to get me to never return. Management: Please hire some people who appreciate the business we give you.

My husband and I were recently at Young Island Resort. We did the Sail and Stay Package which allowed us to see more of the Grenadines ( Tobago Cays, Salt Whistle Bay, Mopion, Petite St. Vincent, Union Island, Palm Island, Bequia) for several days before having several days to relax on the resort and explore St. Vincent. We highly recommend other visitors look into that option. We are pretty active people so we didn’t sit around much on the beach but other guests seem to enjoy the beautiful beach with close proximity to the bar. Our cottage was at the top of the resort ( cottage #30) and that gave us a lot of privacy but we did have a lot of steps to walk up to get to our cottage so that could deter other guests. There are cottages at beach and pool level that don’t require going up the stairs but the view was magnificent from our cottage. The cottage was stocked with shampoo, soap and lotion but no conditioner. They had some fiction books and bug spray in the cottage. Our cottage had outlets for American and European devices. You can ask them to stock fridge with drinks ( we asked for beer and wine) if you don’t want to make the trek down to the bar. Meals were good- bread is delicious and honestly I pretty much stuck with French toast made with the cinnamon bread and some bacon each morning.:) Rum drinks are very strong so proceed with caution. Delicious but strong. The swim up coconut bar wasn’t open when we were there but people used it as a photo op and bar is very close to beach so not a problem for us. The front office staff was very helpful in helping us plan excursions. We took a water taxi to the nearby island Fort Duvernette. We put in for a picnic lunch and ate in the covered shelter at the top. Make sure you take both paths. One area is not as obvious but has a cistern and looks like old soldier quarters. One day we coordinated with front office to schedule a guided ($190) tour to the volcano. It’s about an hour drive on the windward side and lots to look at on the way. The hike itself is very strenuous. We kept a fast pace and were up to crater in 65 mins but most people take more like 1 1/2 hrs- 2 hrs from what we heard. I would be reluctant to take children on this hike. Very steep in places and going down was tricky. Another day we went into Kingstown using the community bus/minivan system. Very cheap way to travel and before we reached main road after getting off resort island ferry we had locals offering to take us to Kingstown. Market had tons of fruits and vegetables and few tourist-y items. Only one shop ( Voyager) had tourist items but note airport also has those items. We had read about noise from mainland but it wasn’t a problem for us. Maybe because of where our cottage was located? One piece of advice if you are in one of the higher up cottages note there is a road for staff I assume and I used that when checking out to roll my suitcase down vs carrying down stairs or asking staff to come get luggage. Overall we had a fantastic trip! I am hoping the new airport will have more direct flights from the US because we came in and out through Barbados and that airport was stressful. Only complaint is how long it took for us to get to St. Vincent from the US so more direct flights should make Young Island and St. Vincent and the Grenadines a more accessible and popular tourist destination.

Young island is a beautiful paradise! Not for those who want television or air-conditioning..but for those who want an escape from their noisy lives in the big city. Iguanas...birds and fishes live on half of the island while humans enjoy the other half. We enjoyed a quiet two days here with delicious meals and a wonderful Valentine's dinner. A really romantic getaway..worth every moment!
