Banyan Tree Ringha in Yunnan Province, China

A phrase often used to describe an earthly paradise, the search for Shangri-La has eluded pleasure seekers for centuries, but thanks to the innovative minds at Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, the search for utopia ends with Banyan Tree Ringha. Nestled betwixt the rolling hills of the Tibetan countryside, Banyan Tree Ringha embodies serenity and simplicity in the Yunnan Province of Tibet's very own Shangrila County. Artfully restored and meticulously maintained Tibetan farmhouses serve as comfortable, spacious lodgings in this heavenly hideaway. Outfitted in rich colors of the Tibetan flag, bold blues, romantic reds, and golden yellows coat the walls and plush tapestries, while intricate woodcarvings and local art enhance the décor. Guests preferring a more intimate setting may opt for one of the smaller bi-level cottages, where a cozy fireplace and handcrafted wooden hot tub offset the rustic charm.

Local culture is celebrated in every detail at this secluded sanctuary, from the savory dishes and sweet teas served at the hotel's array of eateries, bars, and lounges, to the awe-inspiring Banyan Tree Gallery Ringha, where art, textiles, and spa products are made available to guests who hope to take home a little Shangri-La. Explore the deepest trenches on a guided trek around the resort, experience a moment of spiritual stillness in a local temple, or simply kick back with a good book from the resort's library. Honeymoon and getaway packages make a romantic journey à deux more memorable with experiences like Highland Romance, a ride on horseback through the verdant plains to the Tibetan Plateau where a decadent four-course meal is served via candle and lantern light. Not sure of what to do or where to go? The Banyan Tree Concierge is available to ensure that every facet of your trip exceeds expectations, and that you experience the true meaning of Shangri-La at Banyan Tree Ringha.

This is probably one of the most remote hotel properties I have ever stayed at. The road construction on the access to the village and hotel made it even more difficult to access. But it was worth the visit. The hotel is made of a few farm homes located on the outskirts of a small village, and you often cross the path of a pig, a yak, or a group of villagers when walking around the hotel and pastures. The hotel provides limited food options... However, the hotpot with local Yunnan mushrooms was well appreciated after a day walking in the mountains of Shangri la.

Spent a few days here after travelling from Lijiang and Tiger Leaping Gorge and I was so impressed. First of all by the welcome and then the gorgeous old wooden lobby that just felt so cosy and warm after a long days hiking. We were then shown to our rooms which are once again so warm and cosy. They gorgeous old style Tibetan lodges but lovely beds and local decor and great big wooden tub downstairs for you to relax in. The location is just not like many other places in China. Coming from Shanghai, it was such a relief to be staying in a place that reminded me of the West of Ireland rather than China. It is so peaceful and the local culture is fascinating. The staff here were very knowledgeable, and made the trip all the more interesting with their stories about the area. Also, you've got the see the manager Mario's dog - the huge Tibetan Mastiff, Lanka! Mario was great and a delight to talk to as he's been there a long time and has some great stories to tell. I had an amazing time here and would love to go back again.

We stayed at the Ringo to settle down and acclimatise on the way to Tiger Leaping Gorge and the Meili Mountains. It was a good choice. The Dinner Joe Yang arranged for us was terrific and very memorable; the views and local walks were also helpful.

very nice stuff, perfect view, nice breakfast, after visiting Songzanling Lamasery, we stay here just for relax, a terrace is facing the Ringha river valley and the view is great, since our friends invited us to have dinner in the town, we missed the SPA and yark hot pot.

This is our second stay in two years, and we were as delighted this time as during our first visit. The hotel location in a valley close to Tibetan villages is ideal to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the scenery and the friendliness of the local inhabitants. Still, Shangri-La city and its attractions are only 20 minutes away, over a good quality road. The hotel buildings and the rooms are simply stunning: spacious, warm, decorated with traditional Tibetan artifacts. Each room has a large balcony overlooking the river, ideal for a cup of tea watching the sun set. We used the spa and the experience was first class, as always with Banyan Tree spas. Hotel staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and satisfied our every request efficiently and wth a smile. What more could we ask for... Possibly to come back soon to this hidden gem?
