Banyan Tree Ringha in Yunnan Province, China

A phrase often used to describe an earthly paradise, the search for Shangri-La has eluded pleasure seekers for centuries, but thanks to the innovative minds at Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, the search for utopia ends with Banyan Tree Ringha. Nestled betwixt the rolling hills of the Tibetan countryside, Banyan Tree Ringha embodies serenity and simplicity in the Yunnan Province of Tibet's very own Shangrila County. Artfully restored and meticulously maintained Tibetan farmhouses serve as comfortable, spacious lodgings in this heavenly hideaway. Outfitted in rich colors of the Tibetan flag, bold blues, romantic reds, and golden yellows coat the walls and plush tapestries, while intricate woodcarvings and local art enhance the décor. Guests preferring a more intimate setting may opt for one of the smaller bi-level cottages, where a cozy fireplace and handcrafted wooden hot tub offset the rustic charm.

Local culture is celebrated in every detail at this secluded sanctuary, from the savory dishes and sweet teas served at the hotel's array of eateries, bars, and lounges, to the awe-inspiring Banyan Tree Gallery Ringha, where art, textiles, and spa products are made available to guests who hope to take home a little Shangri-La. Explore the deepest trenches on a guided trek around the resort, experience a moment of spiritual stillness in a local temple, or simply kick back with a good book from the resort's library. Honeymoon and getaway packages make a romantic journey à deux more memorable with experiences like Highland Romance, a ride on horseback through the verdant plains to the Tibetan Plateau where a decadent four-course meal is served via candle and lantern light. Not sure of what to do or where to go? The Banyan Tree Concierge is available to ensure that every facet of your trip exceeds expectations, and that you experience the true meaning of Shangri-La at Banyan Tree Ringha.

A friend recommended the Banyan Tree Ringha and are we glad he did. Mario and his staff provided us with a most memorable experience. Our renovated Tibetan farm house was spectacular and provided views second to none. I booked a surprise private birthday dinner for my significant other in the BT yurt. The experience was second to none with no detail left unturned including surprise room decorations upon our return. Mario also took time out from his day off to take us on a hike in the hills which provided for more spectacular scenery. Every member of the staff we encountered went out of their way to make sure our experience was memorable and it surely was. We also made a scheduling error with our next hotel in Tengchong. The Banyon Tree staff booked us another room and also provided us with a pick up and transportation to hotel from the airport. If we are ever in the Shangri-la area again, we will make sure to repeat our stay

We budgeted a week for our honeymoon in Yunnan and was debating on whether to make a 2-day trip to Shangri-la, and boy did we make a right decision to come and stay at the Banyan Tree Ringha. We arrived in a Banyan Tree car and it felt like we have left civilization for a remote village in a different era where local Tibetan culture was preserved extremely well. The staff's warm Tibetan welcome with khata, thoughtfulness in acclimating us to high elevation of 10,000+ feet, and the extra touch of decorating the room for our honeymoon made us feel we're a special guest to a local Tibetan farmer. The farmhouse is beautifully renovated to both preserve the local tradition and update for modern amenities. The two-stories suite included a loft-style upstairs with bedroom, study, multiple seating and dining areas, and a traditional fireplace. By local customs all vanities are located downstairs with animals but don't worry there's only modern bathroom amenities plus a traditional barrel bathtub, which makes a romantic domestic activity. Overall our short stay was extremely pleasant. Dressing up as Tibetan Tashi and Drolma, sitting on the balcony sipping tea while enjoying the still landscape, and strolling up the hills in the morning to take in the view of the entire village were unique and relaxing. The trip served as a gateway to understand Tibetan culture and a great getaway from city living.

Just back from Ringha BT. This is the most different BT property I'm ever been. A nice place to relax and retreat. Just like a farm stay. No noise, only animals. Super nice team under Mr Mario. U feel like friends handling all your issues. Very well arrangement for my day trip to visit the local and monastery. We be back for sure.

My villa overlooks river with a mountain as the background. The view is spectacular. You can see farmers taking their animals out in the morning, be it yak, pigs or chickens. There are 2 storeys in the villa with the sitting area & bedroom on the ground floor. There's a steep staircase that goes down to the bath tub, shower, toilet & closet, all opened area. It's an interesting Tibatian style house. My tip for you is try not to go to the toilet in the middle of the night! Breakfast is simple buffet style woth typical Yunnan noodles plus the basic western food. We had barbeque pig & lamb one night in the patio which was great. One of the staff even sang a Yunnan folk song for the guests. My stay was very pleasant as the staff were all nice & can speak relatively good English. However, due to the high altitude in Shangri-la, I suggest taking the high altitude medicine, but of course, consult your own doctor.

Great value and experience fora bit of Tibetan culture. Located 40 minutes from Shangri La airport outside of town, which is its charm. We found hotel transfer expensive, better to arrive by taxi. Day tours are researched beforehand & we used same taxi driver for a negotiated daily price of Rmb600. A good deal! Room is one big 340 m2 Tibetan house & very well decorated. Impressive but a bit too big for my kids 9&10 year olds. Local village walks are nice.
