The most incredible, picture-perfect week of Christmas - ever! Cannot imagine a better place to stay during a visit to this part of Switzerland. Just doesn't get better than this. A true Christmas Card scene within easy access to everything going on - walked everywhere - no need for other means of transport. Customer service that is at the top of the chart - even the weather was flawless during our week ( lots of snow had fallen before we arrived) - we enjoyed 5 days of clear blue sky and sun, so the Matterhorn was magnificent and the final two days new snow came in - such a winter wonderland.

This was our 4th visit to Zermatt and we finally found THE place to stay . In the past it was either very poor and rude service (Hotel Mirabeau) or great service but not central enough for us ( Alpenhof) . At the Zermatterhof the service is truly excellent , the location is unbeatable right in the middle of the resort . Reception is great , Daniela the concierge is tirelessly working with a smile to find us the right restaurant , Raphael in the ski room will have the skis and boots lined up the minute we walked in and has a taxi on call to take us to the slopes . The building itself is quite old , i wouldn’t say run down , but very classic . A better effort could have been done on some small aspects like the shower head for example which is easy and inexpensive to replace . On the upside the bathrooms had a bidet which was a pleasant surprise . Otherwise no complaints whatsoever . We were in 224-225 , connecting junior suites ,for 5 days , good space overall , comfy bed but closet space is a bit limited . Our children were in 314-315 non connecting deluxe rooms , very spacious , more so than the junior suites with dining table , lounge etc . We did face a very big problem though. As with most alpine hotels the rooms tend to be very warm so we had to open the windows at night . At 7 A.M. the church bells go off literally few meters away . Then every 15 minutes till 7:45 when it starts ringing for 15 straight minutes non stop !!! Then again every 15 minutes . It was soooo incredibly annoying but knew nothing can be done about it . The last 2 days we were moved to a large suite on the 5th floor , a complimentary geste by the hotel because our rooms were previously allocated . It was one of the newly refurbished rooms ...WOW ! Amazing and it had a street view so less bells sound . As for the rest , swimming pool is very nice and really big , a bit cold at 27 degrees for my taste . The spa is ok , nothing to scream about . We only tried 1 of the 3 restaurants for dinner , food was tasty , we would have liked a bit more variety , it was the same menu both times we went there 5 days apart . Breakfast buffet is quite good too . All in all it was a good experience , we will definitely return if we go back to Zermatt next year but with a good pair of ear plugs . Finally , loved the fact they had a cigar lounge , great addition . To re-iterate , if there was any negatives they were far outweighed by the very good service .
