Cottage Grove Inn in Calistoga, Napa County, California

Cozy cottages with peaked roofs and pastel-colored shutters are a welcome sight after a day of wine tasting. Each cottage at Cottage Grove Inn is uniquely outfitted – sink into an overstuffed chair in front of a wood-burning fireplace on hardwood floors made from salvaged old-growth fir from an old whiskey distillery or into a wicker rocker outside, enjoying a Napa cabernet. The nearby town Calistoga – with its two-lane roads and ban on fast food restaurants – offers an equally quaint take on life.

Dig into a hearty breakfast by the fireplace in the breakfast nook. Borrow a bike for a day of riding along idyllic terrain, stopping at wineries en route. Have a glass of syrah at one of the area’s family-owned hidden jewels. Picnic in the vineyard. Nap. Unwind with one of the day's purchases in your cottage whirlpool.

They had the most comfortable beds. The hotel is small and cozy but the rooms were spacious. It was quiet but an easy walk to downtown Calistoga so easy to go for lunch or drinks. There were lots of tasting rooms in the town so easy to have wine without traveling by car. The breakfast was awesome and had more than any hotel and the wines in the evening were great. I will definitely be back.

Quiet and quaint individual cottages. The place is clean and offers free breakfast along with wine and cheese in the afternoon. The staff was helpful and very nice. Calistoga is a small town and we enjoyed our stay here.

As far as romantic boutique places go, the Cottage Grove Inn is good, but not great. There is nothing to really pin-point for the non-five star rating, maybe the average location (near downtown, no views), or the lack of things we like to do close nearby. The rooms were nicely setup, decorated, and were comfy. It just didn't feel like we were "away". Great staff, great wine & cheese setup in the afternoon, and some great antique shops nearby. Nicely priced for the type of place. We would definitely come back, just not at the top of my list. FYI, my wife loved it, would give it a higher rating than I am giving it.

The Cottage Grove Inn goes down as one of our all-time favorite stays anywhere in the world. The hotel is a series of individual cottages located on a side street off the main drag in Calistoga - understated but absolutely charming, warm, welcoming and very romantic. The cottages are clean and adequately roomy for a comfortable stay, featuring in-room fireplaces, deep jetted tubs, a roomy bathroom, comfortable lounging chairs, well-stocked in-room minibars and very comfy beds. An onsite afternoon wine tasting and fabulous breakfast round out the stay. The owners, who built and still operate the inn are friendly and very helpful with area recommendations for a guest's visit. I can't wait to return to this amazing and easily over-looked hideaway in the California wine country.

What A Find. Nestled just off the Main Street thru Calistoga is a huge stand of black oak trees and other monsters that secret 17 of the cutest cottages imaginable. Each with their own veranda and some with outdoor lounges. Inside is found a wood burning fireplace, enveloping king size bed, over stuffed chairs, well stocked honor bar, and a bath with double sink, shower, and jacuzzi tub. The afternoon complimentary wine and cheese pairing features local wines and Chef Lola prepares a delicious breakfast, all included. Moderately priced both for the area and the unique accommodations. Put the Cottage Grove Inn on the top of your Napa Valley list.
