Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Up in the far reaches of New England is an inn that embraces an understated elegance in the breathtaking state of Maine. Inn by the Sea – part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts – has emerged as one of Maine's premier luxury seaside retreats, and has been granted the prestigious AAA Four-Diamond Award. With just 57 rooms, suites and classic cottages, guests are guaranteed attentive service and an experience that promises to exceed expectations. Located in Cape Elizabeth, less than 10 miles from Portland, the inn has managed to redefine coastal luxury with its sophisticated palette of deep red, cognac and charcoal hues, coupled with maple furnishings and local artwork that graces public and private spaces. A private boardwalk leads onto the soothing shores of Crescent Beach, crossing through a sweeping wildlife sanctuary along the way.

With such intimate surroundings you might not expect full-service amenities that a larger hotel offers—but rest assured, Inn By the Sea is both full-service and fabulous. Classic New England fare is served at Sea Glass, the exceptional all-day dining restaurant. You will discover not only fresh local ingredients and seafood selections pulled from local waters, but you will also savor the spectacular ocean views from inside the dining room or on the al fresco deck. The inn also offers some two-bedroom cottages replete with full kitchens for your gourmet comfort and convenience. The serene spa features a half-dozen treatment rooms, plus separate men's and women's sanctuaries to retreat to before and after you have been pampered by a skilled therapist. Coastal Maine also offers a wealth of windswept recreation, including lobster boat cruises, kayaking, lighthouse tours and even hot-air balloon adventures. After a day of exploring, return to Inn by the Sea and be lulled to sleep by the sound of gently crashing waves.

Perhaps one of the finest places to stay in all of Maine. An "world" away in the countryside along the ocean. Yet just 15 minutes (if you know the area) to the Inn. You will never believe how close, yet so far away Portland. Fabulous accommodations, DOG FRIENDLY --- A RARE FIND. Property including outdoor pool, private beach, fabulous dining room, artwork... are Now unwind and explore north to Freeport the home of L.L. Bean. Or head south the Higgin's Beach, Pine Point, Old Orchard Beach, Kennebunk, and Ogunguit. A 6 hour drive from NYC. Portland is a jet port serving many cities on the east coast with short flights too, but you'll want to rent a car.

The Inn provided all of the amenities you could ask for within the room. Little things make all the difference. For example, the bathroom came with: BATH MAT, Extra bath towels including SPA Length, double sinks, storage bins. The room itself was considered a "traditional room" but was exceptionally equipped. It had lovely winged back Seagrass chair with ottoman, a fridge that was discretly placed into a closet and the desk chair was also a high back padded chair. The room also had a gas fireplace. Each evening, an attendant brought bottled water and cookies to our room.

Our annual trip was exceptional. We tried room service this time -- again perfect. Brought our dog who unfortunately wasn't allowed on Crescent Beach, but the grounds are a hot bed of doggy activity. The staff foster a puppy whenever we are there, which makes it even more enjoyable. Some outside noise as new buildings are being built, but the workers stopped by midday.

My husband and I were looking for a weekend getaway. I stumble upon the Inn by the Sea via TripAdvisor. Let me tell you that it was one of the best weekend my husband and I had have in a long time. The staff was great. The facility was beautiful and very clean. Pet friendly and eco friendly. Can't wait to book another amazing weekend at the Inn by the Sea. Also I highly recommend booking an appointment at spa! Amazing!

We had a wonderful visit. Our suite was fantastic with a beautiful view. We spent the afternoon with our daughter, enjoyed a light meal in the bar (excellent lobster tacos & chowder) and a pleasant evening relaxing in the comfortable living room. The noon checkout made for a relaxing morning as well. My wife and daughter have stayed here before, but this was my first visit. We'll definitely be back.
