Luxury comes naturally at Inn by the Sea, surrounded by the beauty of coastal Maine. Located on a mile of sandy beach in New England the Inn embraces an understated elegance with traditional coastal shingled architecture, but decidedly modern and stylish interiors. Inn by the Sea - part of the L.V.X collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts - has emerged as one of Maine's premier luxury seaside retreats and has been granted the prestigious AAA Four-Diamond Award. With just 61 rooms, spacious one- & two-bedroom suites and rooms, guests are guaranteed attentive service, elegant hospitality and an experience that promises to exceed expectations. Located in Cape Elizabeth, just 7 miles from Portland, the inn has managed to redefine coastal luxury with its sophisticated interior design coupled with a permanent collection of art created by renowned regional artists that grace public and private spaces. A private boardwalk leads onto the soothing shores of Crescent Beach, crossing through a sweeping wildlife sanctuary along the way. With such intimate surroundings, you might not expect the full-service amenities offered by larger hotels, but rest assured, Inn by the Sea is both full-service and fabulous.

We stayed in a dog friendly suite with distant views of the ocean. It was on the first floor, as dogs are not allowed in the higher rooms, and it felt dark, despite the large windows in front. The suite itself was fine, but felt more like a mid-level beach rental than a luxury hotel. The kitchen/living/dining space was overcrowded with furniture so it felt cramped; the bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed, and the bathroom was spacious as well, though it was a very basic bathroom - no spa shower or luxury amenities - and there was very little water pressure. The biggest disappointment was the lack of cleanliness and how poorly the suite was maintained during our stay. There was grime all over the cabinet doors and a prior guest's food in the cabinets, dirty dishes in the cabinets, the floors were dirty, and we kept finding surfaces covered with dust. The restaurant gets higher marks - we had breakfast and a few dinners in the bar and the food was excellent, though the service was mixed. Overall, a nice stay with some issues and too pricey for what you get.

My husband and I had a 2 night stay for some business in the area but also a relaxing getaway. The staff was amazing. My husband had a massage with Jake. He said it was the best massage he has ever had. We had dinner and breakfast in the Sea Glass, it was so good. I can't think of a single complaint.

Beautiful resort. Amazingly nice staff. Beautiful ocean views and property. Just a lovely experience. And only a 15 minute drive to the wonderful restuarants and activities in Portland. Highly recommend.

We have a great stay traveling with our two young children. Our room was on the ground floor and opened on to the yard for the kids to play. The hotel was very nice, but certainly kid friendly. The food was excellent. We did room service each night and it was way above average. The staff was extremely acomadating to our family and made it very enjoyable for my wife and me.
