We stayed at The Inn By The Sea last year and loved it. We were on the fence on staying there again this past weekend, vs staying in downtown Portland, as we wanted to be able to walk to town. We decided on the Inn b/c we loved the fire placed room that we had stayed in last year. However when we arrived there was a gas line issue, so no fireplaces for the weekend. Although we were very disappointed since it was the main reason we booked there, the staff turned everything around instantaneously. They handed us champagne and upgraded us to a suite (which was gorgeous and had wonderful ocean views), then minutes after we got to our room, one of the woman from reception came and asked to bring us drinks on the house. Again, not having the fire placed room we hoped for was a disappointment, but we truly felt that everyone went out of their way to make it up to us, all weekend. We decided on our way home yesterday to make our getaway at Inn By The Sea and annual event. It's the type of place where you can truly just breathe. Go running, listen to the ocean, take a stroll on the beach, sit by the fire pit, put your feet up on the patio and watch the boats roll along. A very special place and well worth a visit!

Probably the most comfortable bed and pillows we've enjoyed while traveling! Service all around was excellent, views of the ocean were lovely. Loved hearing the winds howling all night during a storm while tugged in snugly under down comforters. Not terribly impressed with brunch but would try the dining room again. The service was very friendly and everyone working there was welcoming. I will try the spa next time as I've heard good things.

We just returned from two nights at Inn by the Sea. the facility is lovely. The rooms are elegant. The staff is friendly and helpful. They seem to really enjoy their jobs. But the greatest thing was how pet friendly the Inn is. We could take our dog to dinner with us and everyone was so sweet to her. We will look forward to returning soon.

We have stayed at the Inn a number of times and always have a wonderful experience. The beauty and ambiance is reason enough, the friendliness of the staff is reason enough, but beyond all of that they are the friendliest upscale place to stay with your dogs. As of this week they are on their 104th foster dog - a dog from the shelter that they keep behind the desk until it is adopted. They permit dogs in the lounge so you can have them with you while you eat an informal meal. They bring a water bowl over without asking. The Cove Suites are absolutely wonderful and recently remodeled.

The hotel is beautiful, right near the beach, about a 5 min walk through the marsh trail. The hotel staff, especially the check in folks, Marc & Annie were so accommodating and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We stayed in 2 cove suites with group of girls and enjoyed the fireplace, soaking tub and having a kitchen and balcony with view of the ocean. We ordered room service and it was very easy and quick. Would highly recommend this hotel
