Bernardus Lodge and Spa

From the moment we drove up to the property everything was 5⭐️the grounds are beautiful! Our room was amazing and the staff was incredible One of our favorite places that we have ever stayed!!

This was my second stay at Bernardus, and it was somehow even better than the first. The grounds are extraordinary — beautifully designed, deeply cared for, and full of small details that make the property feel peaceful without ever feeling staged. I spent a lot of time just walking the gardens, enjoying the views of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the vineyards, and the quiet rhythm of the property. The food was also excellent. Lucia continues to be a highlight, and even the more casual meals felt thoughtful and high quality. The local ingredients, the cheeses, the fruit, the meats, and the little touches like Meyer lemon chutney were all memorable. The spa was lovely, the service was warm and polished, and the whole stay had that rare feeling of being both luxurious and genuinely relaxing. Bernardus is the kind of place where the setting, food, gardens, and hospitality all work together. I left already looking forward to returning.

Location was beautiful and my wife and I had a wonderful time. Room was perfect. Really enjoyed the free food and beverage items in the room.

Bernardus Lodge & Spa is one of those rare luxury properties that feels polished without being stiff and deeply comfortable without feeling generic. I stayed in a Premium Garden King room, and the whole experience felt restorative from the first walk through the grounds. The setting is exceptional: lavender, olive trees, pergolas, mountain views, hummingbirds, butterflies, and a private patio that made the resort feel more like a refined Mediterranean garden estate than a conventional hotel. The room was calm, elegant, and highly livable, with unusually generous welcome amenities: Bernardus Sauvignon Blanc, sparkling water, beer, tea, lemonade, filtered water with herbs, fresh fruit, cheeses, Bernardus crackers, kettle chips, and chocolates. The Sauvignon Blanc was excellent and made the welcome feel personal rather than merely stocked. The food was a major highlight. Dinner at Lucia was outstanding, especially the local seafood — oysters, abalone, and salmon. I also loved the special charcuterie experience, with green olives, prosciutto, and an orange chutney/paste that showed real culinary care. Breakfast was just as strong: smoked salmon, crab cake with poached eggs, smoothie, and bacon, all from a serious kitchen. Please especially recognize Chef Ava, who gave me house-made treats to take with me, including olives, special chutney, jam, and other small goodies. Raquel did an excellent facial, and Jennie’s massage was wonderfully relaxing. Bernardus has rare coherence: wine, food, gardens, spa, room amenities, landscape, and staff all aligned. Elegant without being cold, generous without being showy, and luxurious without losing its soul. I would return without hesitation.

A return trip to Bernardus and it was magical as always. If you want an elevated and comfortable experience with great service this is the place for you. It is a must stay every time we are in the area. Take a new Mercedes into town for dinner? Walk through carefully manicured gardens? Enjoy spacious and well kept rooms with comfortable beds and great views? Be treated like family? If this sounds good, this is the place for you.
