Reviews for Bernardus Lodge and Spa
We stayed one night whilst travelling up the west coast. The hotel is beautiful, staff really friendly (bottle of their own wine on arrival!). The food was brilliant, and the chef made me a unique starter as I couldn't have what was on the menu. Really nice hotel and would recommend.
It was so hard to leave Bernardus Lodge. The grounds are beautiful. So many wonderful places to sit and enjoy the views at the lodge. The rooms are nicely decorated and spacious. We stayed in the room bedroom suite on the ground floor, which includes a great outdoor shower and patio. The room rates are reasonable considering this is California and the level of service you get at Bernardus.

Just had 2 nights there on our way from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. Great spot, if we had to be picky, too quiet. Our bungalow was excellent, great stylish interior, could not fault it. Service was excellent all round with the hotel staff. We dined in hotel restaurant, it was ok, not fab. Lovely setting tho, outside was idyllic, although pool full of flies.... Valet guys very helpful, would come back.

We stayed at Bernardus this past weekend to celebrate my birthday and it met almost every expectation of mine. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly valet and was guided to the lobby for a complimentary glass of wine (which was delicious!) and to check in. We walked into the room and every bit of it was just perfect! They even had all the essentials for our little dog to enjoy. The first night, we ordered room service and it was so good! We shared the prosciutto pizza with truffle and it was the perfect amount for two. However, we had dinner the second night at the Lucia restaurant and it fell short. The service was fantastic, but the chef's tasting menu that night was mediocre. We were not pleased with any of the courses served except the dessert. We ended the night with the final course (panna cotta) and the waiters placed a candle in it for my birthday, which was a nice touch. I was extremely disappointed as we did not feel the meal justified the price for the tasting menu. Overall, the hotel was great for short weekend getaway, but I'm not sure if I would dine at the Lucia again especially with the prices being high for a meal that was not impressive.
We chose the Bernardus Lodge and Spa because we thought it would be fun to experience Carmel Valley with its wonderful wineries and yet be ten minuets from the ocean. It was the perfect combination trip of Land and Sea. We had dinner in there amazing restaurant , we also had the best huevos rancheros for breakfast I have ever had. We stayed in one of their beautiful new suites with vineyard and mountain views. Worth the splurge I almost felt like we were renting an entire house. The mini bar filled with cheese, crackers and wine and beer was a really nice touch. Nothing went untouched. The bar was busy and refreshing in that we met quite a few really friendly locals not to mention the great staff. We really liked the short drive to the beach in Carmel. If this is your first visit to the area and don't want the crowds of the village stay here. We will return .
