We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with a two week trip to CA, and the Bernardus Lodge & Spa was one of our stops! We spent four nights there, in Villa #73, and when we were shown to our room, my husband gasped! It was so incredible, we still can't believe it! Everyone at the Lodge wished us a happy anniversary and greeted us by name every time we saw someone! The room was spotless, the outside areas were incredible, the whole experience, from check-in to check-out was fabulous!! We had a rental car, so we drove into the beautiful town of Carmel every day, it was only 15 minutes away! At first, we were a little disappointed that we didn't have an ocean view, but the Lodge was magnificent, we'll never stay anywhere else when in the area!!

Our only regret is we made a mistake in reserving only one night here. The service of this hotel is was quite amazing from the time you arrive with the valet to check-in with being offered a nice glass of wine or fresh fruit juice. Loved the design of this hotel both inside the lobby and landscape of the grounds. The room was spacious with a big balcony, lounge area with fireplace, and spacious bathroom. The bathroom contained an oversized tub and waterfall shower. Smart design by putting the shower knobs on the other side of the shower so you don't get wet when turning shower on. Another smart feature was they had the usb ports for your devices built into the plugs above the bed side tables. Room included a free bottle of wine and snacks. Even the Nespresso machine was a nice touch. We arrived late and restaurant was full so we ordered room service. It arrived promptly. Food was of good quality. My only recommendation would be for Bernardus to have more options on the menu as its quite small selection. Picky eaters might have a problem if counting on room service for dinner. We also ordered breakfast in and had it out on the patio. Breakfast was spectacular. Kudos to the chef. Unfortunately we were chased out of balcony patio by some wasps. They have an adult pool/Jacuzzi which was nice. We spent most of our day at the main pool which also has a Jacuzzi. I really appreciate the service at the pool area. Even though it wasn't crowded staff were active in going around asking if you wanted drinks or food. They have complimentary fruit water by pool as well. I love the fire pits in pool area and spread throughout the hotel grounds. Only have two negative experiences during my short stay. We had a confirmed late check out. However there was a wedding and we found the maid staff waiting outside the rooms to hurry us out even though it was 45 minutes before our check out. They had also removed our drinks and food that were partially eaten. Thought this quite rude. Also one of our rooms we had a towel with huge holes in it. Generally towels seemed over starched and not soft. I'm shocked they could allow such a towel considering the quality of the service and hotel. Even with the above small problems in mind I would still rate this a 5 star hotel. In fact it would have been a 6 star hotel without those issues. They even have smart marketing by putting a Bernadus Lodge wood on your key chain. Very cool. I will definitely come back and highly recommend anybody coming to Carmel area to stay at this hotel.

We have been to Bernardus many times. We decided to stay in a villa room since they were under construction the last time we were here. Great rooms with great views, beautifully put together. Also a adult's only spa that was huge which was perfectly clean. The rooms are huge with a private living room with separate bedroom. If you have a chance to get a villa do it you won't be disappointed, very much worth the extra money. Bartender Jose served us the first night and he was a pleasure, very friendly and really knows what he is doing. We order a filet which was done to perfection. He is a friendly and great guy. Gabe was their the second night which we know from previous trips and he is a pro, very good. Gabe has a great personality and knows how to make a drink. We ate dinner at the bar both nights and couldn't be more pleased. Room 66 was at the end and very private, its a one bedroom villa. Overall a great stay, we brought our new puppy and he loved it. Very dog friendly! I can't say enough about the overall experience but its what we expect when we come here, you will never be disappointed with the great service. Can't leave out Tim what a great guy he showed us to our room and also served us up some white wine when we got there, another great employee of Bernardus. Thanks again for a great stay!

When arriving, the first experience was amazing. Great staff, lovely place, and good installations. However, we got an unpleasant surprise in the morning. They need to pay attention to the room entrances, our's looked like a dumpster and none of the trash was from us.

Spectacular 1200 sq ft vineyard villa suites with Mountain View’s. Excellent staff from front desk manager Alec to Tim at valet. Use of Mercedes suv or convertible up to 4 hours. Lucia restaurant is fantastic. Hotel also provides 3 days of snacks and drinks ( beer, wine , Voss water with daily NeSpresso). Outdoor shower or 2nd level deck with fireplace suites are updated, spacious and quiet. Awesome family stay.
