French Quarter Inn in Charleston, South Carolina

For over a decade, the French Quarter Inn in historic Charleston, South Carolina has been indulging guests with its regal accommodations, thoughtful amenities, and superb service. A 2014 Condé Nast Traveler Platinum Circle Gold List recipient and a AAA Four-Diamond destination, the inn enjoys an envious central location in the heart of historic Charleston. With its timeless elegance, rooms - both private and public - are appointed in French urban décor coupled with Parisian blue accents and warm wood furnishings. Oversize guest rooms and suites appear even larger with expansive 14-foot ceilings. Behind guest doors are plush sanctuaries with triple-sheeted beds, recently renovated baths, and in some cases, working fireplaces and private balconies. The sound-sleep pillow menu and turndown service ensures a restful slumber.

Amenities seem almost too good to be true with complimentary champagne and lady fingers upon arrival, daily afternoon wine and cheese, fresh-baked cookies and milk in the evening, a gourmet continental breakfast served in your room or in one of the public areas, and 24-hour coffee service. Within walking distance are a number of fabulous restaurants, including the hotel's very own Tristan. With its urbane décor of hardwood floors, a whimsical banquette, and minimal appointments, Tristan offers a decidedly bold American fare menu for brunch, lunch or dinner plus an astounding 400-label wine cellar. Take a stroll along the city's cobblestone streets following your fine meal, enjoy a tour of an antebellum home, share a frothy cappuccino near the waterfront, or prowl through the shops on premises. There are also several enjoyable city tours that paint a fascinating picture of Charleston's centuries-old history.

This hotel is perfect. It has character, is luxurious and comfortable, rooms are spacious and quiet, staff can't do enough for you and it is very well situated making everything in the historic part of Charleston within easy walking distance. We loved it here. Tip: No need to have a car here as there is very limited parking so your only option really is the valet parking which is expensive.

We had the opportunity to spend a night here & it was a wonderful experience. Every member of the staff is very accommodating, especially Tim and Glori who went above & beyond making reservations for us, making sure I had some gluten free breakfast (which was delicious) & trying to find out information on our delayed flight home. The champagne greeting at check in was wonderful, the coffee & tea as well as the lemonade, iced tea & detox water with M&Ms & jelly beans always being available is a very nice touch! A surprise upgrade to a suite with a balcony was amazing!

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff is much of what makes this place, all very friendly and helpful. Tim was great in helping us with our issues of coordination of bags, car, and information after checkout. The three socials are fabulous. The rooms are amazing. The lobby exquisite. Location is ideal. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

There are many good things to say about this hotel -- as other reviews attest. We stayed 5 nights in a deluxe king suite with a terrace, and the room was lovely. A corner with windows on two sides letting in lots of light to the bedroom, comfy bed, a big bathroom (but no tub) and a small but pleasant sitting room with couch, TV and fireplace (too hot outside to use, but still nice to see). Housekeeping was prompt and did a good job both morning and evening and the few minor issues we had with things in the room were fixed promptly. The location is excellent. The only negative relating to the room was the fact that the A/C was quite noisy and woke us a few times as it cycled on throughout the night So why not a "5" rating? Our experience is that management of the property was a bit lax. Virtually every morning when we came down to breakfast (9 or so), we'd have to tell the front desk to refill basics like napkins and cutlery, as well as one or another of the breakfast platters. The breakfast itself was plentiful and good -- loved having the Greek yogurt and fresh fruit -- but it was surprising in a hotel of this calibre to have to wait to get a fork or spoon or a refresh of some dish. Equally surprising to discover that the outside tables still contained glasses and cups from the prior night's activities when we took our breakfast plates onto the terrace the next morning. These are petty annoyances to be sure, but this is a 4-star property and not inexpensive, so you expect the staff to keep on top of basic details. That said, I can certainly recommend the property for its location, cleanliness, comfortable rooms and pleasant atmosphere. Coffee set out in the hallway each morning was a lovely touch. The decor is high-end traditional hotel, so those who like a more modern aesthetic or a more unique style might find this place a bit bland visually. Still, if management gets its act together fully, this is a very good option for a great Charleston visit.

My husband and I had the best experience staying in the French Quarter Inn for our 29th Anniversary! This hotel and their gracious staff made our stay absolutely perfect in every way! From the delicious breakfast, to the wine and cheese gatherings in the evening, capped off with milk and cookies or a gourmet dessert late night, we thoroughly enjoyed everything! Finally, the cold lemonade, peach tea, water and other goodies in the lobby all day were an added treat! When we go back to Charleston, we will certainly stay at the French Quarter Inn again!
