HarbourView Inn in Charleston, South Carolina

Situated in one of America's most enticing cities and surrounded by volumes of history, the HarbourView Inn overlooks the bustling waterfront of Charleston, South Carolina. Boasting AAA Four-Diamond status and a Gold List award from the editors of Condé Nast Traveler, guests of this enchanting retreat can bask in the glorious appointments that recall the city's early years as a nautical trading hub with the Caribbean colonies. Rooms are a mix of Old-World wonders and haute appointments with fine antiques positioned beneath plasma-screen televisions. Hunker down in a room with arched windows and exposed brick walls or request a penthouse chamber with working fireplace, a mini bar stocked with complimentary refreshments, and a Juliette-style balcony overlooking the harbor.

Southern hospitality is contagious within the inn's confines. Amenities include complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon followed by fresh-baked cookies and milk in the evenings. Added conveniences such as their silver service breakfast - delivered to your room, on the rooftop terrace or presented in the magnificent atrium lobby - are to be expected. It is likely you will want to explore the genteel cobblestone streets of Charleston, the city where Rhett Butler and Scarlet O'Hara honeymooned. The inn even offers complimentary historic walking tours, but you may not need a guide at all. Located within walking distance to Waterfront Park, the famous city market, several wonderful restaurants, a bevy of boutiques and antique row, the HarbourView Inn allows guests to explore with ease. As for those storybook antebellum homes, they too are plentiful, and many are open for the public to tour.

This hotel has had the most devoted personell during two weeks in the US, among only four star hotels. They work as a team, helping each other to the benefit of the guests. Other things as some wine and cheese in the afternoon (on the house) as a surprise. That takes away small things of wear and tear in a corner. Would be happy to comeback again!

We stayed in the Grand Harbour View room on the 4th floor. Beautiful views, great service and a wonderful experience all the way around. People at the hotel were very gracious and accommodating even though we were there until the day before Irma hit. Very professional organization.

Stayed here as art of our US road trip in August 17, travelling with wife, 14 year old daughter and 10 year old son. Stayed in a waterfront room, although hotel is set back some way from the coastline, so the view was mostly restricted.Location is good for waterfront walks, and shopping/restaurants/tourist area etc Room was clean, staff were very helpful. Rooftop bar was cool and relatively empty when we visited. Was exactly as we expected, and would use this hotel again

I was on a road trip from FL to CT with my 92-year-old mother and we chose Charleston as one of our stops along the way. As we arrived at the Harbourview Inn, we were greeted by a pleasant young valet who efficiently took care of our luggage and car. We were warmly greeted by the front desk staff and then off to relax after a long day's drive. Our room was modern, quiet, and extremely comfortable with a lovely view of the water! My only disappointment was with a different valet as we were leaving. If you travel with an elderly person, you have to stay close and guide them making sure they don't trip and fall requiring more time and patience. I mentioned to the valet that packing the car required a little care with my mother's walker and wheelchair so he said he would wait to pack the luggage. When I arrived with my mother, he was throwing our luggage in our car while chatting with a gentleman. I asked him to please stop and that's when he remembered what I said - no problem. He then emptied our luggage on the ground and simply walked away chatting with the same gentleman leaving me to guide my mother into my car slowly and carefully. I went to the back of my car and then loaded my luggage and her walker since he was standing there chatting. The poor service from this valet was extremely disappointing and I found personally disrespectful to my obvious need for assistance. The rest of the team was outstanding!

The Harbour View Inn is an upscale hotel that is located across from Charleston Harbor. It's proximity to East Bay St, and all of the downtown shops and restaurants is excellent. It's about 20 minutes from the airport, and they provide overnight parking for $27 per night. The valet's are attentive, and collecting your car only takes minutes. The valet's also prepare the bicycles for use (at no charge), which can safely get you around the entire city. Check-in is easy, and the service was very good. Our room was a king with a balcony which faced the harbor. It was well laid out, the bed was huge, there were many drawers, a desk, fireplace, ceiling fan, and the bathroom was clean and spacious. The bed sheets and duvet were nice and clean, and the bathroom towels and robes were new. A continental breakfast with fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, pastries, and croissant breakfast sandwiches, can be served on the first floor, the roof deck, or delivered to your room. Unfortunately there were a couple of negatives. Because I booked online (turns out that the reservations are back ended by Priceline), I wasn't able to get a printed final statement, comprehensive of the entire stay. Another issue was one evening after placing the breakfast menu on the doorknob, we went out for dinner, and when we came back the menu was gone, but the room door had been left ajar - wide open. Nothing was missing, but it was unsettling. The next night, our door keys were invalidated, and we had to get them re-coded at Reception. Also, and not a negative per se, the roof-deck is quite possibly the nicest one in town, but it was underutilized, closed at 9pm, and there were never more than 7 people on it. This might be okay for a lot of folks, but we like a little more action. Overall, this is a charming inn with a great location, and I'm sure that our "issues" are not habitual, but more of one-off's that unfortunately dampened an otherwise wonderful experience.
