HarbourView Inn in Charleston, South Carolina

Situated in one of America's most enticing cities and surrounded by volumes of history, the HarbourView Inn overlooks the bustling waterfront of Charleston, South Carolina. Boasting AAA Four-Diamond status and a Gold List award from the editors of Condé Nast Traveler, guests of this enchanting retreat can bask in the glorious appointments that recall the city's early years as a nautical trading hub with the Caribbean colonies. Rooms are a mix of Old-World wonders and haute appointments with fine antiques positioned beneath plasma-screen televisions. Hunker down in a room with arched windows and exposed brick walls or request a penthouse chamber with working fireplace, a mini bar stocked with complimentary refreshments, and a Juliette-style balcony overlooking the harbor.

Southern hospitality is contagious within the inn's confines. Amenities include complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon followed by fresh-baked cookies and milk in the evenings. Added conveniences such as their silver service breakfast - delivered to your room, on the rooftop terrace or presented in the magnificent atrium lobby - are to be expected. It is likely you will want to explore the genteel cobblestone streets of Charleston, the city where Rhett Butler and Scarlet O'Hara honeymooned. The inn even offers complimentary historic walking tours, but you may not need a guide at all. Located within walking distance to Waterfront Park, the famous city market, several wonderful restaurants, a bevy of boutiques and antique row, the HarbourView Inn allows guests to explore with ease. As for those storybook antebellum homes, they too are plentiful, and many are open for the public to tour.

Ok wait let me explain but this will be a long review. Hotel stays always start with research and then a hotel website. HarbourView Inn’s is very informative and works as you would expect. Reservation had a confirmation email sent quickly. We arrived and parked in the marked space right out front. A friendly valet/porter was right there offering to assist, points. At the front desk the staff was also very friendly and check-in was a breeze, points. Our Magnolia room on the third floor was gorgeous with a four post king bed and Tempur-Pedic mattress. Good size desk, small table and two chairs with an arm chair and ottoman. Still the room was a good size and didn’t feel cramped. OK so now it is all too good and I have to find fault. Bathrooms always show issues, nope. Some of the finest tile work I have seen with a shower big enough for two. Large rain head at one end and hand-held at the other. Either they just had a remodel or maintenance knows how to chalk. No big smears anywhere even behind the door at the floor, points. Then the view, nope. As I opened the drapes I had a beautiful view of a fountain across the street at a large park. Across the river was the USS Yorktown and to the right across the water was Fort Sumter made easier to see with the quality binoculars I found on the desk, points. Room includes complimentary breakfast as well. The atrium has wine and chesses in the evening and warm cookies and milk later at night. The outdoor terrace on the 4th floor has a bar serving top-shelf brands, I stopped looking at labels after I found Woodford Reserve, points. Then it must be the location, nope. The city free shuttles stop across the street, next door is a gelato shop and a small pub called the Griffon. In 3 blocks are about a dozen quality restaurants some of which I will also review. Also close-by, several walking tours start and about 4 blocks away is the city market area with more shops, restaurants, and the start of the horse carriages tours. 10 out of 10, so we stayed a second night and upgraded to a Grand Harbourview room on the fourth floor. Opened the door to similar room as before but wait it was smaller, fault! It couldn’t be because of the gas fireplace so I opened the drapes to find a small terrace with two chairs and an even better view than before. Sitting outside with drink in hand, private terrace waterview of Charleston harbor 11 out of 10!

Top notch service and A+ rooms with comfortable beds and a gorgeous view out to Charleston harbor. This is the perfect place for somebody who has never been to Charleston before, returning visitors, or locals looking for a low-key weekend getaway. Located in the right spot in town so you can walk just about anywhere.

My husband and I just returned from a 4 night stay here. We had such a wonderful time here last year we came back again! The customer service here is outstanding. The location of the hotel is perfect. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The amenities are perfect. The bed is the best ever! The cleanliness of the hotel was superb. We would definitely stay here again. We miss it already!

Harbourview Inn is located within walking distance of all things you've come to see in Charleston. Situated directly across from waterfront park. The amenities are all new, clean and modern. The old section has kept its historic charm as well. Amar, Betsy, Demetrial & Limit all work together to shine as a warm welcoming team. Amar makes great cookies, try them! There is a warm guest reception every afternoon. They serve wine, meats, cheeses and other finger foods. You could make dinner right there. And then later at night they serve free cookies and milk. You get what you pay for. We got our money's worth. We definitely recommend staying here. I would suggest they get rid of the clocks and house phones (everyone has cell phones, right?) Invest in lamps with more electric outlets or USB ports to them at bedside. I had to unplug things in order to support my CPAP machine and phone.

So customer friendly. Never heard the word "no". Rooms were very clean and bed was soooo comfy. Good sized rooms and baths. Great breakfast, wine and cheese at 5 and cookies and milk at 9!!!! Felt like home. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Hotel is in great location - right by the water and central to historic district. Could walk everywhere. Felt like home.
