HarbourView Inn in Charleston, South Carolina

Situated in one of America's most enticing cities and surrounded by volumes of history, the HarbourView Inn overlooks the bustling waterfront of Charleston, South Carolina. Boasting AAA Four-Diamond status and a Gold List award from the editors of Condé Nast Traveler, guests of this enchanting retreat can bask in the glorious appointments that recall the city's early years as a nautical trading hub with the Caribbean colonies. Rooms are a mix of Old-World wonders and haute appointments with fine antiques positioned beneath plasma-screen televisions. Hunker down in a room with arched windows and exposed brick walls or request a penthouse chamber with working fireplace, a mini bar stocked with complimentary refreshments, and a Juliette-style balcony overlooking the harbor.

Southern hospitality is contagious within the inn's confines. Amenities include complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon followed by fresh-baked cookies and milk in the evenings. Added conveniences such as their silver service breakfast - delivered to your room, on the rooftop terrace or presented in the magnificent atrium lobby - are to be expected. It is likely you will want to explore the genteel cobblestone streets of Charleston, the city where Rhett Butler and Scarlet O'Hara honeymooned. The inn even offers complimentary historic walking tours, but you may not need a guide at all. Located within walking distance to Waterfront Park, the famous city market, several wonderful restaurants, a bevy of boutiques and antique row, the HarbourView Inn allows guests to explore with ease. As for those storybook antebellum homes, they too are plentiful, and many are open for the public to tour.

Booked four nights several months in advance for harborside room (we were given room #108). Be aware that those rooms are on second of four floors (check-in desk is on second floor as well which is the problem). Interior doors open to an atrium with coffee and breakfast items and near front desk and elevator...very noisy with families. Also harborside room overlooks tree and park fountain with kids playing in the water from 8am to 8pm. The rooms are indeed harborside with barely a view of the harbor if you stand at your French doors. Generally not a good room location for $400 a night. In fact, probably worst location of rooms on that floor. Not what I expected--Would have been better off staying in a different room (street side) at a lower price. Rooms had nice amenities and great shower, but are beginning to show a little wear, as is the hotel with carpeting buckling in the hallways. Very nice staff however and nice touch with full breakfast items delivered to your room each morning along with late night cookies. All together, you are paying strictly for location because the hotel was rather average (I travel a lot for business and the hotel was on par with a Hampton Inn, but without the noise and a better view). We're moving on to the Montage Palmetto Bluff next (at a lower rate per night) and having stayed at Montage resorts in the past, I expect better rooms and service. There are plenty of hotels near the historic district other than the Harbourview Inn, and we would definitely try another on our next visit.

We stayed on the top floor "Grand Harbor View" rooms. The view of the harbor was wonderful. On the desk we found a pair of very powerful binoculars which was a great addition to the experience as you sit on your private balcony. Complimentary snacks and drinks in the mini fridge that were stocked daily. The front desk was happy to request taxi, uber, rickshaw, etc.. and they were waiting out front when requested. Daily breakfast delivered to your room. We had a 6 month old with us and the hotel brought a pack-and-play just in case we needed it. I can't wait to bring my family back to this hotel.

I am so glad my husband and I stayed at this great boutique hotel on our first trip to Charleston. We were here for 4 nights in April and really loved everything about it. It is located right by the waterfront at the start of the pier and by the pineapple fountain, within easy walking distance to all of the historical district. Upon check in we were given a welcome cocktail. Our room had a nice four poster bed. There was free continental breakfast each morning that could be delivered to your room or to the lounge area or the rooftop. In the late afternoon they had a wine and cheese hour. In the evening they had milk and cookies. And better late than never, on our third day we discovered M&Ms and a nice water station in the lobby! Charleston is known for their good food but it seemed as though we barely needed to leave the hotel to eat anything. The rooftop had a bar area and lots of lounge seating. You could look over the city and the water. It was nice to step across the street to the waterfront in the early morning or late evening and sit on one of the bench swings lining the pier. I would definitely stay here again. Loved it!

We were in Charleston for our niece's wedding and had the pleasure of staying here for a few nights. Wow, what a great location downtown. We left the car parked and walked everywhere. Our room was lovely, and very clean. Loved the bath products! We needed our room to be cleaned early two times due to wedding activities, and the staff accommodated us with no problem. Also, we sent out clothes to be pressed and the hotel accommodated this rush request with no questions asked. We enjoyed breakfast in both our room and up on the terrace. The terrace is not to be missed! The water, tea and M&M’s in the lobby was perfect. Enjoyed the M&M’s a little too much, however! The staff was wonderful. Thank you for a lovely stay.
