Reviews for The Vendue
If you like history, art and unique places to stay, you cannot beat the Vendue, perfectly located in the heart of historic Charleston. We were greeted warmly by Mark as we pulled up to the curb, and we were in good hands from then on. As we checked in, we were offered a glass of champagne. Mark gave us a tour of both Vendue buildings (our rooms were across the street from the main building). Fabulous original art, curated by art director Emily Rigsby, is displayed throughout both buildings, on loan from local galleries. There is even an artist in residence, who paints in a studio located in the hotel. It is an amazing experience to be surrounded by so much beauty and talent! The Vendue offers a wine and hors d’oeuvres meet-up in its gallery each day at 4 pm, followed by Emily’s tour of the art in the hotel. Our rooms were interior kings, very pleasant, although (warning for claustrophics) there are no windows. The bathrooms were generous and clean. These buildings were once warehouses run by French merchants in the late 1700’s, so there are some eccentricities (our wooden door stuck, for instance). But that makes this place even more loveable. Don’t come if you expect typical chain motel standard rooms. I could go on and on. Great rooftop bar frequented by locals, breakfast and newspapers included, and oh, they have cream sherry in the room in case you want a nightcap. Complimentary water in the rooms, milk and cookies every evening, umbrellas if needed, yummy bathrobes in every room. And then there is Mark again, who remembers your name and bids you farewell when you leave. Fabulous.

One of the coolest hotels and things to do in Charleston. Unique art in both parts of the hotel (across the street from each other) and an artist in residence that was painting live when we walked through. The lounge is relaxing and hip plus there is a rooftop bar. IN LOVE!!

The staff is incredible, particularly Eric. Hotel is lovely and quaint. I wished I had a make-up mirror in bathroom (old eyes). We ate in the restaurant on Christmas Eve and it was underwhelming; however breakfasts were very good. Angela, who attended our room was remarkable as well. Our suite had an attached sitting room, which was lovely. Thank you to all.
We were in Charleston during the ice/snow storm in January 2018. The Vendue not only accommodated our last minute reservation, but the staff, who were also snowed in, were amazing! Angel, Nikki, Robin, Cameron, Kaitlin and Frasier - the welcoming staff were so helpful in checking us in, parking our car, and keeping us updated on the weather and road conditions. As all restaurants were closed since people could not get into the city The Vendue and it's staff provided boxed, hot lunch options as well as a free buffet dinner for all guests. Robbie, the bartender kept all spirits up with his friendly, fun personality, and great drinks! If you come to Charleston this is the place to be!! It's in the French Quarter which is in the heart of the historic district. I highly recommend The Vendue for your stay in Charleston!

Our stay was during the 2018 winter storm -- the worst in 5-10 years with 3" of snow and ice. The city was stopped. Restaurants closed. The ice storm started at 8:00 a.m. The staff found some Kosher salt in the kitchen and spread it across the street between the two buildings insuring guests safety. That was the beginning of a long day where the staff who were here by 9:00 had to invent what was to be done for the guests since Charleston was at a standstill. What unfolded was nothing short of miraculous -- the food for lunch and then dinner, all complementary was terrific with a great touch of Charleston low country. Special arrangements, no problem. "What can we do to help you". Granted, the staff had good practice when Hurricane Irma came roaring through this fall, but they were all special -- helping each other as well as the guests. Indicates a culture of customer service and special Charleston hospitality. I look forward to our next visit during more normal circumstances. We will stay at the Vendue. Special recognition to the Vendue Storm Crew today:Nikki, Angel, Robin, Frasier, Chef Forrest, will Jacob, Cameron, Antonela, Tanya, and Nadia. Sorry if I missed anyone. Highly recommend the hotel based on the location, the art in the hotel, and the staff. It has been a great place to be stranded.
