The Vendue is superior . Great customer service from front desk and bell staff . Maurice gave us a good review of hotel amenities . The room is well appointed and comfortable. Sherry and ginger snaps are a nice touch . We would stay here again . The 1 issue , be aware, some of the rooms do not have windows ... this can be a little claustrophobic.

The good- Maurice - took care of our bags as our room wasn't ready when we arrived, was very friendly and helpful with our questions, remembered us the next day Unusual concept - "art hotel" Rooms - very clean, good size Location - super The not so good - Reservations - I had a very hard time making a reservation. Had to call back several times after being put on hold for a loooong time or being told that they would call back but they never did. The only reason I kept calling back was because of all the great reviews I really wanted to stay here. Maybe I should have taken it as a sign! Front desk- while everyone was friendly enough, but not very sincere, I felt that something was lacking and I think it was management, it was a bit chaotic and confusing. Never did see or could tell who might have been or should have been in charge Our room - while we did like our room it was far from the elevator and through a narrow hallway. Once we took the stairs nearest our room to get to the lobby only to find the doors locked at the bottom of the stairs so back up the stairs we went. It made me a bit nervous that in case of an emergency we wouldn't be able to get out through the nearest stairs While The Vendue is a nice hotel I don't agree with it being ranked #1 in Charleston

What a wonderful hotel! One block from the water, fifteen exceptional restaurants within 4 blocks and a beautiful building with a staff that works to take care of your every concern. The art is an added bonus and a wonderful addition to the ambiance, Our favorite!

I have stayed at the Vendue every year for the past ten years on my way to Florida. The transformation of this property has been amazing. The artwork adds an additional ambiance. From check in to check out you a treated like a special guest. The wine reception, the night cap of cookies, and all the amenities make this place the #1 in Charleston in my opinion.

If you like history, art and unique places to stay, you cannot beat the Vendue, perfectly located in the heart of historic Charleston. We were greeted warmly by Mark as we pulled up to the curb, and we were in good hands from then on. As we checked in, we were offered a glass of champagne. Mark gave us a tour of both Vendue buildings (our rooms were across the street from the main building). Fabulous original art, curated by art director Emily Rigsby, is displayed throughout both buildings, on loan from local galleries. There is even an artist in residence, who paints in a studio located in the hotel. It is an amazing experience to be surrounded by so much beauty and talent! The Vendue offers a wine and hors d’oeuvres meet-up in its gallery each day at 4 pm, followed by Emily’s tour of the art in the hotel. Our rooms were interior kings, very pleasant, although (warning for claustrophics) there are no windows. The bathrooms were generous and clean. These buildings were once warehouses run by French merchants in the late 1700’s, so there are some eccentricities (our wooden door stuck, for instance). But that makes this place even more loveable. Don’t come if you expect typical chain motel standard rooms. I could go on and on. Great rooftop bar frequented by locals, breakfast and newspapers included, and oh, they have cream sherry in the room in case you want a nightcap. Complimentary water in the rooms, milk and cookies every evening, umbrellas if needed, yummy bathrobes in every room. And then there is Mark again, who remembers your name and bids you farewell when you leave. Fabulous.
