Always a pleasure going here to relax, even for a few days. The staff is always friendly and willing to assist in any way possible. The town is small and quaint, so if you are looking to get away from the city this is the perfect location to do so.

We stayed in a Falls Cottage. It was a bit of a hike from the lodge and from town. Only a few blocks but we wished we had known that it would have been more convenient in another of the choices available. The room was cozy and we loved the heated bathroom floor. The bars and lounges away from the Lodge were not open very late and the staff not as knowledgeable. In the Lodge itself you could not ask for more friendly or helpful staff.

Spread out over a large area, with two check-in points that are difficult for a first timer to find (and you have to find the correct one for your room's location). Cottage was badly in need of updating, - definitely not a premium experience, despite high price. Facilities are spread out, so moving between buildings is not easy, especially in the rain. High points are the restaurant and Spa, which are absolutely outstanding. I will try to rate them separately.

Old Edwards Inn and Spa was our getaway destination. We had admired it from afar and loved the town of Highlands, but had not stayed there. What a fantastic inn. So much more than meets the eye when you drive by. First there is the main building with the restaurant and lounge and then lodges and cottages and pool area and more. So charming and rustic and so inviting. Food was fantastic, personal service, a typical Relais and Chateaux experience. We can't wait to go back and golf and spa and relax even more. And the charming town of Highlands and the beauty of the NC mountains. So much to do in so little time. Definitely on our short list to return.

Wonderful location and full of amenities. We went here for the weekend to escape our kids and had a great stay.... except... it honestly needs some updating/deep cleaning. I'm being critical here, but at $400+/ night in the mountains of North Carolina, I had high expectations. The mildew in the shower and the mold-stained travertine marble in the bathroom were a turnoff. It was a good get-away and a beautiful location, but honestly, disappointing. I've stayed at other Relais & Chateaux in the States and in Europe and honestly, they each been exceptional. The old Edwards Inn was very good, but not exceptional.
