Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocino, California

Off California’s Hwy 1 is Brewery Gulch Inn, a retreat nestled between redwood forests, dramatic Pacific cliffs and a verdant mosaic of vineyards. Proprietors Guy and Sarah Pacurar have forged an idyllic respite made of timber reclaimed from the Big River and populated with Arts and Crafts furniture, in an ecosystem they actually strive to improve by regenerating the land and encouraging bio-diversity. Otters and harbor seals frolic in the waters below as deer dash through the forests. To watch the sun set over this coastline is something extraordinary.

Wake up to the hotel’s special eggs benedict on homemade English muffins and custom-roasted Black Oak blend coffee. Trace Highway 1 to Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, where a fern canyon, rhododendrons, roses, deer and osprey populate the wild coastal bluffs. Continue up the road to Noyo Harbor, lunch at Herons by the Sea in sight of the fishing and Coast Guard vessels passing by the village. Enjoy a horseback ride on the beach at the Ricochet Ridge Ranch: one of Outside magazine’s top 25 trips of a lifetime. Upon your return to the hotel, enjoy wine hour by the monumental four-sided glass and metal fireplace. Finish your day at the Headlands Coffee House with the local kids, artists, and couples, then wind down by your in-room gas-burning fireplace.

The Brewery Gulch Inn is one of those rare finds along the California Coast that automatically beseeches you to make a reservation for next year--which we did. We stayed at the Serenity Cottage and "serenity" doesn't even begin to describe the peace, comfort, view, and all the wonderful things this cottage offered. We had previously stayed in the main Inn and found it wonderful. Breakfasts were fabulous, there were always some munchies available all day, the service was one of the best. In short, we cannot say enough wonderful things about this Inn--We only worry that there will be so many people attracted to it we will have talked our way out of being able to reserve for our annual weekend to Mendocino

The rooms and inn were beautiful, especially the setting, and the staff made the experience a terrific one. Having both breakfast and dinner provided allowed for a very relaxing stay. We would be very happy to go back.

A wonderful property with welcoming staff and top notch amenities. We traveled with our 3 children (2 teen girls and one 2 year old boy) and the staff was very receptive of our needs. The food was excellent and the beer was even better. The views are breathtaking and the whole experience can be summed up as tranquil. We will be returning for a parents only stay soon!

Great views of the Mendocino coast, really helpful staff, an evening supper was served and breakfast was excellent. Room was very comfortable and spacious and air conditioning involved opening the windows for the sea breeze

We stayed for a second time and our only complaint is that our room was a bit noisy. The fact that breakfast is included in the price is great. The "light dinner buffet" offered at night could also easily take the place of going out to eat. The bed was a bit saggy.
