Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocino, California

Off California’s Hwy 1 is Brewery Gulch Inn, a retreat nestled between redwood forests, dramatic Pacific cliffs and a verdant mosaic of vineyards. Proprietors Guy and Sarah Pacurar have forged an idyllic respite made of timber reclaimed from the Big River and populated with Arts and Crafts furniture, in an ecosystem they actually strive to improve by regenerating the land and encouraging bio-diversity. Otters and harbor seals frolic in the waters below as deer dash through the forests. To watch the sun set over this coastline is something extraordinary.

Wake up to the hotel’s special eggs benedict on homemade English muffins and custom-roasted Black Oak blend coffee. Trace Highway 1 to Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, where a fern canyon, rhododendrons, roses, deer and osprey populate the wild coastal bluffs. Continue up the road to Noyo Harbor, lunch at Herons by the Sea in sight of the fishing and Coast Guard vessels passing by the village. Enjoy a horseback ride on the beach at the Ricochet Ridge Ranch: one of Outside magazine’s top 25 trips of a lifetime. Upon your return to the hotel, enjoy wine hour by the monumental four-sided glass and metal fireplace. Finish your day at the Headlands Coffee House with the local kids, artists, and couples, then wind down by your in-room gas-burning fireplace.

Our stay was wonderful. BGI has truly anticipated all of your needs, from heated bathroom floors, huge soaking tubs with bath salts and fireplaces in each room. The communal great room is a relaxing place to have a drink and play games in the evening and sit and drink coffee w/ the newspaper in the morning.

The Brewery Gulch Inn is a lovely inn just outside of Mendocino. The rooms are so comfortable and most have a lovely view. The food is amazing and it is so nice to simply eat a light dinner and enjoy a glass of wine without driving anywhere else. The staff is great! Everyone is friendly and helpful. The movie library has something for everyone, and we enjoyed watching movies and snuggling in after dinner. Be sure to check out the things to do recommended by the inn. We enjoyed Catch a Canoe, Mendocino Market, and hiking in Russian Gulch State Park. Of course there is fun shopping in Mendocino, too!

We had a beautiful day and a perfect spot to sit on the deck and enjoy the view of Smugglers Cove. Outstanding service, wonderful food and an unforgettable view. The grounds were gorgeous and it was so relaxing to sip our wine, watch the colorful birds at the bird feeders....with the ocean view in the background.

Well check in was good and quick. Our room was the lookout on 3rd floor. It was a very nice room with a fireplace, comfortable bed and roomy bathroom, but no air conditioning and it was warm up there. They had a portable fan in closet but had to ask for another one and got it. The grounds was nice. Now as for lite supper and Breakfast it was just ok.Our big problem was with eating with flies flying all around us,lots of them. It was disgusting to have to eat like that. Was praying the kitchen didn't haven't this many flies. Everything for breakfast was over done ,over cooked eggs and millionaires bacon was burnt. We were first to have breakfast cooked for us and the wait and overcook meal and some many damn flies had us rushing to leave.Just stayed one night. It wasn't worth the money spent.

So my wife and I just left Brewery Gulch Inn again. It’s become a habit. A good habit. Tranquil settings. Beautiful views. Lovely food (don’t miss the Millionaires Bacon at breakfast). Beautifully appointed rooms. A team that wants to make sure you enjoy your stay. We always seem to meet nice people when we are there. You cannot help but come away feeling pampered and relaxed. We just wish it were a bit closer to home.
