Reviews for Glendeven Inn Mendocino
We booked the Pinewood Room for 2 nights, and ended up extending our stay for a 3rd night. The room was spacious, great bed and linens, comfortable shower (hot water instantly), lots of storage area (both a dresser and a hanging closet), fireplace with 2 comfy chairs in front of it, desk, day bed for reading, breakfast table in front of window with great view of garden and in the distance, the ocean. Breakfast is delivered to the room at 9:00 each morning in a basket, hot coffee and a full meal with an egg dish featuring eggs from the chickens on the property, very tasty and well prepared. The main house is 150 years old and has a common room that is well appointed and also has lovely view. Every early evening we enjoyed a glass of wine and an appetizer before leaving the property for our dinner reservations at 2 excellent nearby restaurants. Innkeeper is eager to please as is his staff. for example, there was a small room with refrigerator, freezer and microwave adjacent to our room where we could store our perishable food. The property is right near Van Damme State Park and 2 miles south of the town of Mendocino. Two things that we have never seen in anyplace we've stayed: 1) llamas are part of the farm and often can be seen parading in their corral--charming! 2) there is a parking spot that said our name and "welcome" and then, the day we left, it said something like "thank you and drive safely." That's what I mean about attention to detail. We have been staying at inns in this area for over 40 years and found Glendeven among the best. Highly recommended.

We stayed 3 nights and everything was top-notch! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They had wonderful ideas on where to eat, hike, kayak, etc. and their suggestions did not disappoint. We made reservations for the Shared Table which is an intimate dinner (no more than 12 people) on site. The meal was incredible and the company and conversation were lovely. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. We enjoyed visiting the chickens and llamas and walking through the gardens. In the evening they provided wine tasting and delicious appetizers and in the morning fresh, hot breakfast. The beds and linens were luxurious and the communal areas were comfy with great places to play games, read books, enjoy the views, sit by the the fire, etc. We're already planning another stay with family in December.

We had stayed here in 2010 and very much enjoyed our stay. We decided to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and so glad we did. The staff and accommodations are excellent. We stayed in the Eastlin room with its secret door through which breakfast is served. We enjoyed being able to open the French doors to our patio and watch the llamas and the sea crashing on the headlands in the distance. The complementary evening wine and h'orderves were a very nice touch.

From the moment we saw a parking lot sign reserving a space in our name and welcoming us to the inn, we realized we had lucked onto someplace very special. The service and friendliness of the staff was over-the-top wonderful, and the accommodations were fantastic. When we checked into our room, the fireplace had been prepared with newspaper, kindling, and wood, so starting the fire was a one-match affair (plus there was plenty of extra wood). On a table in the room was a lovely flower arrangement accompanied by a personal note, a small bag of chicken feed with which we fed the on-site chickens (great fun, and they provide the eggs for breakfast), and two delicious chocolate brownie bites. We could sit on our balcony and view the ocean, as well as view the "yard art": several llamas kept on the property that are endlessly entertaining. Downstairs there was a shared kitchenette with refrigerator, ice maker, microwave, and sink, which we found helpful as we chose to have picnic-type dinners in our room (although there appear to be many nearby good restaurants from which to choose). There was a complimentary local wine tasting in the main building at 5:30 which was extremely pleasant. And every morning, at 9:00 am sharp, came a knock on our door delivering a delightful breakfast assortment. We came here to celebrate our anniversary, and it was a lovely romantic spot to serve as a base for us to explore the state parks and hiking trails in the area. The Fern Canyon walk through Van Damme State Park was one of the most beautiful trails we have seen in California. The only downside to our visit was that we had only booked two nights! We were sorry to leave, and hope to return soon.
