A beautiful Inn in Napa with rude hospitality and service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at 1801 First and really enjoyed many aspects of the property. Our room was spacious, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the inn has a charming, classic feel that makes it easy to relax. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches like the fresh cookies and truffles that were always available. Those little amenities helped create a welcoming, community-oriented atmosphere. The biggest downside to our stay was the breakfast experience. Our room was located right next to the breakfast area, and we were woken up on multiple mornings by the sound of heels on the hardwood floors while breakfast was being prepared. While not ideal, that wasn’t nearly as disappointing as what happened on our last morning. The inn asks guests to complete a breakfast form each day indicating whether they’ll be having breakfast and what time they’d like it served. On our last day, we didn’t fill out the form because we were planning to leave early to catch a flight out of San Francisco and weren’t expecting to have breakfast. When we checked out, the staff member who manages breakfast immediately expressed frustration that we hadn’t completed the form and emphasized how much easier it would have made things for the kitchen. Although we understood the inconvenience, the conversation felt unnecessarily confrontational. Instead of simply wishing us a safe trip, we felt pressured to stay for breakfast even though we were trying to leave. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t improve once we sat down. The staff member continued making comments that came across as passive-aggressive, including calling me “grumpy boy,” and spent much of the meal standing nearby, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. We ended up feeling like we couldn’t politely decline breakfast and leave, even though that had been our original plan. It’s a shame because there is so much to love about 1801 First. The accommodations are wonderful, the property is beautiful, and the amenities are a nice touch. I just wish there had been more flexibility and grace when our plans changed. A warm, understanding goodbye would have left us with a much better final impression than the uncomfortable breakfast experience did.

Fantastic!

We spent five nights at 1801 First in March and we can't say enough good things about it. Carrie, Blair, Laura and Jim were all amazing people and the they and the Inn met our every need. We really enjoyed the excellent daily breakfasts and the daily wine hour in the garden was perfect for relaxing and meeting other travelers. Everyone was terrific in providing great recommendations for dining and wineries. The location was perfect as well, just a short walk to the downtown restaurants, but our room was nice and quiet. Coffee and cookies were always available and even some port to finish off the evening! If we are ever in the area again, we will certainly be back!

Luxury at its finest!

My stay at 1801 First Luxury Inn was absolutely incredible. Napa is always a treat, but this place made the trip even more special. I already can’t wait to go back. I stayed here recently for a birthday weekend with my girlfriend, and we had such an amazing time. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and full of thoughtful details that made the experience feel truly luxurious. The owner, Blair, was extremely attentive and welcoming. At the end of our stay, we realized we had left behind a phone charger, glasses, and a shirt—clearly we had too much fun that weekend! Blair went above and beyond by shipping everything back to us at no charge. Thank you so much for the outstanding hospitality. This place is a gem, and I can’t wait to return!

WE LOVE THIS PLACE. We have stayed multiple times in different rooms. Super clean. Chef made breakfast, owners are super layed back and friendly. 10/10. Pricey but worth it.

Fabulous B&B close to downtown Napa!

What is there not to love about 1801 First? The owner, Carrie, is quite involved in the day to day activities and goes out of her way to meet each guest and get to know them. Her staff is just as friendly. Their chef prepares an exquisite breakfast daily, usually with 3 choices for the main course, accompanied by freshly baked pastries/muffins, a fresh bowl of fruit, and juices/coffee/tea. Carrie has thankfully kept the original charm of this beautifully crafted home. Designed in 1903, she has modernized it to create a luxurious atmosphere, with a choice of rooms inside of the home or cottages just outside of the home. She has kept the home's original charm, allowing you to slowly drift back in time within the storied walls, enjoying the craftsmanship of the original woodwork and magnificent architecture. You are walking distance to downtown Napa and there is on-site parking in their parking lot and also on the street - both are very safe. She provides a wine hour in the late afternoon / early evening and there's always a plate of yummy cookies on the breakfast bar. If you're looking for first class and personalized service, beautiful accommodations, fabulous breakfasts, a convenient location, and a magical experience in Napa Valley, you've found the right place!
