Reviews for 1801 First

I’ve stayed at better places

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This was our first trip to Napa Valley and wanted a nice place to stay for our anniversary. 1801 had great reviews so I chose it based on that recommendation. The good: Location, room comfort, security, evening wine tasting. The bad: Breakfast! Normally, a Bed & Breakfast combines the best of a nice accommodation with a great morning breakfast. 1801 ranks as one of the worst B&B breakfasts we have had. The paltry offering of morning foods was a joke. I was expecting a bread and fruit table, muffins, etc. to accompany a main course meal. I was offered a half slice of stale bread or small micro-muffin, a small bowl of fruit, and then eggs, with burned, hard potatoes and bacon. No fruit bar to refill. No bread table to select and toast your own bread. The hot water urn for tea had a coffee taste…just a bad experience compared to other B&Bs I hav stayed at throughout the country. For the price (over $400 a night) I expected more. It is clear to me that the current owners and managers are just coasting on past reviews. We will not stay here again. There are much better and more affordable choices in the Napa Valley area. Definitely not 5-stars.

The sun at this B&B warms better than the sun elsewhere.

What can I not say about 1801. This place took me back to a time that felt so real. A time to when you wake up as a kid and smell granny or mom cooking bacon and biscuits . You wash your face and brush your teeth. Slip on your slippers and head downstairs to where those of whom you love all say good morning. Everyone has a cup of coffee . We're called to the table, and pops begin to say grace. Amen! Now dig in. Yes, that was my experience that 1801 provided me. Everyone provided excellent customer service. The owners Carrie and Blair are so gracious, professional, and attentive. Lara and Laurie are so sweet and accommodating. They really set out to make you feel comfortable. The service staff are quick and detailed. The property is charming and well kept. The accommodations are pleasantly comfortable and clean. We really appreciated this 1903 Victorian B&B experience as it was my first. Walking distance to downtown, restaurants, blue note jazz club, and bars. Cheers 🍷

Currently staying at the inn however felt compelled to write a review just one night into our stay. My initial impression is that the value of 1801 First Luxury Inn is remarkable. Immediately felt welcomed by staff. We are so impressed by the warm and easygoing nature of everyone we encounter. Rooms are tastefully designed! Love the easy fireplace and massive soaking tub. Immaculately clean. Breakfast is unbelievably good! We were made to feel special. Location is perfect. Easy 5-10 minute walk to downtown Napa. My fiancé and I are seasoned travelers, staying at high end properties around the world. We will stay here again next time we come to Napa. Thank you for everything!

Perfect downtown stay

My wife and I stayed here as a home base to explore Napa. We stayed in one of the cottages and could not have been happier with its decor and comfort. The hosts were incredible in seeing that everything was to our liking. The afternoon wine and cheese and the breakfasts were stellar. Their knowledge of restaurants and local attractions was very much appreciated. We highly recommend this accommodation and certainly would stay again when we return

Amazing Ambience!

1801 First is our favorite place to stay when visiting Napa. The staff goes way above and exceeds our expectations to make us feel welcome and at home. Room 2 is my favorite, with a chair and make-up mirror at the long counter in the bathroom. I love the warm fireplace at night while snuggled in the comfy bed reading a book. Beautiful downtown Napa is just a short walk down the street. Perfect location! We meet guests from around the world, and enjoyed gathering at wine hour each evening over fun hors-d' oeuvres, with delicious 1801 wine, and other offerings. Laura did a great job entertaining a large group of us one evening. The breakfasts are delicious! Chef and Blair do a wonderful job of creating something special for a perfect morning. Louisa and Maria are very sweet and do a fantastic job cleaning our room each day. Carrie makes sure our time in Napa is wonderful and adds a noticeable touch of class to the inn. I highly recommend staying at 1801 First Luxury Inn...you will love the ambience!
