We stayed two nights at the Madewood in mid-April and it far exceeded our expectations. I had done plenty of research ahead of time and compared Madewood to other plantation B&Bs. I knew that I wanted the authentic experience that others described and I was not let down. From the minute we drove up to the house, we were treated like family. Alice was waiting for us outside and greeted us warmly. A printed, framed welcome sheet was displayed on the inside table with all the names of the guests which made me feel very special. The cheese and wine reception was wonderful, followed by dining at a beautifully set table. The food was delicious and plentiful. After just a few hours at Madewood, my husband was giving me a thumbs-up and telling me I made a fantastic choice. I could go on forever about all the good things here, but I will just focus on a few: Miss Angie is the consummate hostess and cook. She answered many questions about the property and Louisiana for us. The Marshall family should be commended and always remembered for saving this historic property and offering the public a chance to step back in time and live for a day or a week in the Louisiana of 1840. The trust and faith they place in the guests is truly remarkable. My husband and I were stunned at the free access we had to the house. We basically could go anywhere we liked, read books on the veranda and enjoy the house as if it were our own. We made a lifetime memory at Madewood. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. Thank you to Alice, Lisa, Angie, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall and the entire staff for an unforgettable experience.

My daughter wanted to go to Madewood for her graduation present. I talked to Angie and she made a cake for my daughter with her school colors! She took the time to research that on her own. Our room was fantastic, the food is incredible and Angie knew some local places we wouldn't have found on our own. Hot chickory coffee in the morning, a lovely breakfast and off we went. Back in the evening for wine and cheese and then a scrumptious dinner. We stayed a week and plan on going back as soon as we can. The service is outstanding, we absolutely love this place!

We stayed one day at the beginning of March this year. The house was restored starting about 50 years ago, and not in a kitschy way. The furniture is from the period. We slept in a wonderful wooden canopy bed crafted by a well known craftsman in New Orleans. We had the one bedroom on the first floor and loved it. Ten foot tall doors and windows. Fourteen or sixteen foot ceiling. We were there on a weekday when only one other couple was there, and enjoyed wandering around looking at all the details. The ballroom is huge, and has an eighteen foot high ceiling. Just magnificent! Angie, the hostess, was just wonderful. We had a great dinner, and she even brought out a birthday cake for my wife, although her birthday wasn't till the next day. I hadn't stayed at a B and B that also served a wonderful dinner. And, the breakfast was just a delicious. The two meals could have easily cost us $100 somewhere.

They were all set up for filming a Civil War Movie. Really made the place look spooky. Had a great time goofing on our friends. Angie and the crew were fabulous and entertaining, and the meals were EXCELLENT!! Great Southern Hospitality. The owner stopped by one morning and gave us some info on the Plantation, and was very friendly. We will visit there again.

I stayed a night in April '16 with my parents so they could show me where my family originally came from in Louisiana. It was such a special and fun night in an old plantation home. The dog was so sweet. The property had great photo ops. I had lots of wine and enjoyed making friends with everyone there during the fancy dinner. Highly recommend!
