Reviews for The Inn at Irving Place
As others have commented, if you want the charm of a quaint, old fashion inn then this is your place. My son and I stayed in the suite with the king bed for one night. Plenty of room and quiet. While we had no problem going up the stairs to the second floor, others with mobility challenges might find it difficult and there's no elevator. The customer service was excellent and friendly from the beginning. The room was functional but had some quirky things like a very unbalanced dresser and chirping toilet. No major issues. Things looked and felt clean but the light level was a little low so I couldn't quite tell. Breakfast was OK if you're in a hurry (it's included in the price) but I would go elsewhere otherwise. Overall, price was reasonable and I would stay there again.
I loved the inn at irving which was our chosen location for my husbands 40th birthday. It was a charming mix of quaintly decorated rooms (we stayed in Edith Wharton room) with an abundance of space and a lovely big bed , living space and with everything you need for an enjoyable stay! I knew I had chosen well when my husband and I walked through the door and Alberto offered us prosecco and helped us with our cases. He was charming and helpful and continued this level of service throughout our stay! Alfonso was also extremely helpful and provided us with maps and umbrellas when required :-). The breakfast was not over facing and continental and was taken in the lovely tea rooms all decorated with fine china and an eclectic mix of decor, if you like a big cooked breakfast there are many bars and restaurants around but this was enough for us. The gramercy area was my favourite part of New York and had lovely restaurants all around my favourite being florian which had meatballs to die for! The hotel is only 5 mins from union square metro station and you can get around everywhere in the city from here. I did go to Atlantic city then back to New York and stayed in a 5 star hotel near fifth avenue twice the price but I had been spoiled by the inn at irving and wish we had booked our final day there and this will be my go to hotel on my return to New York! Beautiful rooms, fantastic staff and great location , thank you inn at irving for a wonderful stay!

This is my first booking at the Inn at Irving Place. The hotel was excellent. It has a lovely, calming turn of the 19th Century charm. It is like a trip back in time with all the modern amenities. The room was impeccable: inviting, comfortable, quiet, clean and beautifully decorated. The staff included the kindest and most helpful people, with no request too large to help with. The adjoining tea room was a lovely place for breakfast. The fresh, continental breakfast was perfect. When I return to NYC, this will be my home away from home!

My husband and I stayed here for a night for a wedding we were attending near Gramercy Park. We were greeted with champagne and afternoon cookies when we checked in. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast in the tea room was also a wonderful experience. The hotel is old, so if you're looking for something modern and completely updated, it's not for you. But if you like lots of character and sophisticated elegance, this is a great place.

The Inn at Irving Place is a small boutique hotel in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. It is located in the lower third of the island and splits the difference between the east and west side, being just a couple blocks off Broadway. The best thing about this hotel is that it is in a quiet neighborhood, yet is within walking distance of the vibrancy you expect from the Big Apple. There is no sign on the hotel, so it feels like you are living in a three story brownstone in Manhattan. The closest subway access is a five minute walk to the Union Square station, which is a transfer point and provides direct access to the 4-5-6 lines that run along the East side of Central Park, where the "Museum Mile" is located. If museums are your thing this a great location. It is also close to New York University, so the restaurants tend to be less expensive and there are also food trucks at Union Square. There are two movie theaters within a short walk and a CVS drugstore a block away. The proximity to the university lends a youthful feel to the neighborhood, which is balanced by the old money vibe of Gramercy Park, with it's beautiful old gothic and Italianate apartment buildings. Also, there is great bar called Pete's on the next block, which bills itself as the oldest original bar in New York, established 1864. The bar serves food quite late into the evening and has sports playing on TVs. The walls have photos of the proprietor posing with famous visitors. The hotel itself is very charming, with period furnishings in the lobby and the rooms. The room we stayed in was above average size and easily fit an added roll away bed. There is also a tea room attached to the hotel that serves high tea and is where you eat the continental breakfast, which is included. The hotel has no elevator, so you get that New York "walk up" experience, which for some may not be ideal, though there are first floor rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful; they provided suggestions on restaurants based on first hand experience. I recommend this hotel very highly. I will stay here every time I'm in New York. It's truly a great find.
