Reviews for Inn at Occidental

New owners will ruin this inn

The new, inexperienced owners have plans to change the , the inn from an interesting, historical place to stay into some kind of techie ,cigar-lounge hangout with all the cutely colorful walls painted white (or cigar-shellaced) yellow soon!! Lol. Breakfast service has always been terrible unless your standards rise no higher than bacon and Costco croissants.

Delightful in all ways!

Dreamy bed and linens; lovely, quiet room with superb view of bucolic area. Superb service and welcome, and the serene garden and small porch were excellent spots to relax after a day of cycling! Not to be missed....a true treasure!

Inn at Occidental

We have stayed at this Inn a couple of times in the past and found it quite charming. Maybe there has been a change in ownership? Our most recent trip was somewhat disappointing. We had not expected that there would be so many changes to the decor that the pictures show on the website. The lobby is not as charming…old books and some of the furniture and has been removed. The rooms do not reflect the website pictures, and much of the cute decor items have been removed. A big complaint is that the website states all rooms have robes. There were none in our room and the manager stated to us that they do not have them. The bathroom does not have towel bars to hang wet towels, and our bed did not have a headboard. The previous owners/ managers served their guests a hot dish for breakfast. No longer the case. When decaf coffee was requested, it was never brought to the coffee table. The management needs to show a little more hospitality and consideration to their guests. Inn at Occidental, please update your website.

Another lovely summer visit to Occidental

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

We visited the Inn at Occidental in August 2019. It was very busy then, but the experience was wonderful and we enjoyed it very much. Fast forward four years, through COVID and so many other changes, and we decided to return again to this quaint little town tucked away in the redwoods of western Sonoma County, and of course we returned to the Inn at Occidental. It seems much quieter now, perhaps that is due to all the changes of the last four years, but the staff at the Inn are wonderful, and the Inn itself is just as enchanting as we remembered. I think my blood pressure is 20 points lower, just staying here.

Beautiful and relaxing home base in a beautiful, quiet part of Sonoma

I had an amazing three days at the Inn at Occidental during my solo vacation recently. It was the perfect place to relax, unwind and unplug. The grounds are beautiful right now - everything is blooming and green and they do a wonderful job at keeping everything looking wonderful around the property and in the courtyard. I stayed in the Sonoma Lodge room and it looks just like the pictures on the website! It's a large room painted a bright blue, with a large private balcony. huge tub, fireplace and king size bed. All the window open to let the fresh air in too. I was in heaven. The innkeepers I chatted with while there, Jeannette and Marilyn, were very friendly and helpful as I planned my days. Breakfasts were delicious with fresh pastries, fruit, and more. I loved that Occidental is a tiny town (about 2 blocks!), and Jeannette and Marilyn recommended outstanding restaurants there and in other small towns nearby. Everywhere I drove was on two-lane roads twisting through acres of grapevines, trees, and apple orchards. It was nothing like the busier parts of Napa and Sonoma, where there's traffic and a lot of people. But wineries abound everywhere you go. I highly recommend the Inn at Occidental and can't wait to return another time soon.
