The Bee and Thistle Inn and Spa is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from "pretty Burtie Baby" These are the words the entry parrot greeter Burt at the Bee and Thistle Inn spoke to me when I visited him after a sweet and lovely breakfast in the antique-filled dining room after the first night of our stay. The common rooms of the Inn are as spectacular as the staff. These lovely people flit about sweetly among the lovely art work and furniture. I truly felt that I was in a special, cared for place and thus, cared for and cared about. The Inn sits on a picturesque site on the Lieutenant River. The Inn restaurant was closed during our stay and a dining credit was part of the package however the Inn substituted a "picnic dinner" that we were able to take down to river and enjoy at sunset. I could not imagine a more lovely setting for a checkered table cloth, flowers in a vase, spinach salad, salmon and desert along with a glass of the wonderful wine the Inn served with cheese to all guests at 5 o'clock! Very romantic and serene.  Yes a couple of things for caution. The package offers best available room. When we arrived the Inn was mostly full.  We were shown to a third floor and a rather small, room and bath. The full flights of stairs would be a difficult, if not impossible task for any health impaired or geriatric guest. We asked about room change and were graciously given opportunity to see another available room across the hall. It was larger and there we took our nap before dinner. Alas the bed was not up to par and again requested a different room. Well the only room available was the small one and we moved back. It proved to be fine and comfortable, if not the usual five star quality of size and bed quality of luxury link properties. We were sure that the innkeepers would have moved us a third time in the morning but they were so lovely and helpful we stayed where we were for the second night. Overall, not to miss this lovely inn!! And we will return, hopefully to review a room on floor one or floor two!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very attentive management and reception staff Location, location, location. This Inn is in the perfect spot to explore the charming towns of Old Lyme, Chester, Branford, Guilford and Saybrook. Each with have unique historic features, great stores and wonderful restaurants. The white-sand beaches are also just 10 minutes away. I'd recommend rooms on the top floor, whilst smaller - they are quiet'r as the INN is old the floors creak a lot. Lovely lounge area, bar and well appointed dining room are perfect to relax in and enjoy well prepared meals and beverages.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gorgeous property Had to wait nearly a year before taking advantage of this auction win, we went in late summer - beautiful time of year to go.  The grounds are gorgeous, the house is an antique dream.  The food was great, the staff was friendly.  Our room was cold though, and there are no individual controls - apparently it's a known feature of room #3.  I would also recommend a trip to Chester, taking the river ferry route.
