Hamurana Lodge in Rotorua, New Zealand
Natives say that the Rotorua region captures the true magic of New Zealand. The same applies to Hamurana Lodge, where the luxurious amenities of an international hotel softly blend with the personal touch of a country lodge and the grandeur of a manor house. A perfect base from which to explore the Bay of Plenty, Hamurana Lodge offers boutique accommodations on a 12-acre lifestyle farm that is home to native birds, resident animals and towering redwood trees. A long, tree-lined driveway takes you to the estate, which also features the stunningly beautiful and spiritually rich Hamurana Springs. A breathtaking experience can be enjoyed from any of the 12 intimate rooms, each one individually decorated with a high standard of comfort and class.
After a day of experiencing local Maori culture, the geothermal earth forces, trout fishing, or biking mountain trails, you can return to a quiet place to relax and retreat. Whether you decide to stay on the premises or venture out, your options are plentiful. Relax by an open fire, delight in the lodge's outdoor swimming pool, meet new people in the billiards room, play tennis or take your chances on the pétanque terrain. In the evenings, the chefs of Hamurana Lodge delight you with classic French cuisine in the exclusive à la carte restaurant. Later on, you decide how to culminate your night - either sipping your favorite drink as a cozy nightcap or laying under the stars on the terrace. Hamurana Lodge offers a real opportunity for a personal encounter with the great spirit of New Zealand.

Reviews for Hamurana Lodge
Interesting place to stay in Rotorua: + cosy building itself; + nice territory, a lot of rabbits outside the hotel, amazing donkey; + tasty breakfast; + very high and individual service and attention from the Manager; + luxe cosmetics; + possible to stay with children in special room which is not connected with other rooms (it is difficult to find nice lodge to stay with baby under 5 years). - rooms style is very special, I would prefer some details to be updated; - swimming pool area doesn’t work during our stay, may be due to the cold season. I recommend this Lodge to stay in Rotorua for few nights.
How does this place merit 4.5 stars? No air conditioning, 3 small windows and a fan to circulate warm air; even with a light blanket it was uncomfortably warm and stuffy. Pillows like pancakes and mattress is soft and lumpy. Breakfast is adequate (good coffee and warm croissants). The safe is on the floor in the closet and requires some physical contortion to get your head and eyes level with the keypad. Has a shabby and rundown feeling with peeling and stained wallpaper - not really what comes to mind when I think of "boutique" hotel. Price is out of line for what you get. Inconvenient location as not many restos around and need to go into town to eat dinner. While drive is only 15min one way, can be difficult navigation in the dark. It's in a peaceful bucolic setting and could be quite restful if that's what you want. Better value and better air conditioned sleep closer to town in 3-star hotels.

Our fiends had booked into a place called Pukati apartments in 1080 Pukati street, we arrived there , took one look and started looking for alternative accommodation. In stepped Hamurana lodge, quick call and 2 suites booked. What a pleasure and privilege. we were spoilt rotten, the service exceptional, with manager, staff so friendly and helpful. Was like been at home nut with lovely country surroundings and service exceptional. This lodge is extremely highly recommended by all of us, it really was a treat. rooms great, although been on ground floor you can hear the wooden floors above when folk walked on them, but a small inconvenience, breakfasts great, really quaint boutique hotel. Rabbits running around , donkey in garden, lovely setting. Quick 15 mins into town for dinner,

I challenged the chef to cook the perfect poached eggs ...... and OMG did he deliver ! fantastic views from the dining room with the option to sit on the elevated patio. And what a welcome ...... the sensor that detects someone entering the grounds gives the team enough time to gather to welcome their visitors as they meander up the drive, past the donkey and alpaca ...... feels like royalty. Id describe the premises as traditional..... not modern or contemporary; but very clean. You'll need transport to get to town, and with a chef like that, I'd suggest they offer evening meals ?
