In the heart of California's "Gold Country", southeast of Sacramento, Hanford House Inn embodies the charm of the historic town it inhabits. This classic, ivy-covered retreat resides on a quiet corner of the main street in downtown Sutter Creek, located in the heart of the Sierra Foothill wine region, within 30 miles of Amador, El Dorado, Calaveras and Lodi wineries. The inn offers an escape filled with laughter, fine fare and personal attention. Eleven spacious bedrooms present a tribute to the gracious past, while the rooftop sundeck showcases the beauty of the surrounding hills.

We arrived in the beautiful town of Sutter Creek and were so delighted when we saw our hotel, the Hanford House. Modern, beautiful rooms with all amenities. Warm welcome, and an excellent restaurant (Element) attached. Limited parking. The town is around the corner, and is delightful to walk at any time - morning, afternoon or night. Can't wait to return.

It was the nicest place to stay within walking distance of the theater. We were there for a concert and it was easier to park close and walk, so we chose the Hanford House. It's an old property but it's clean and comfortable. The staff is very nice. They delivered scones at 7:30 am. They just leave them by the door. They don't knock and wake you up (nice). I'm not a fan of scones because they are dry and these were no exception. As others have said, there is no elevator. They gave a $25 voucher for breakfast at their restaurant. It was tasty. There is Greek place just around the corner that seemed to offer a regular American breakfast. I wanted to try it, but we ended up using the voucher.

If you want to be spoiled, this is the place to go. The front desk personnel were very friendly and explained any changes with the new ownership. I have only stayed on weekends so there wasn't much different. This time we had a ground floor with a private patio which was really nice to sit, relax enjoy a glass of wine from the lobby. Coffee (great by the way) in the morning with a scone delivered to the door was a nice way to start the day. We had breakfast at Element and the hotel had given us a $25 coupon for breakfast. So we really only paid a small amount for a great breakfast. The only drawback is that sometimes the parking is a little bit scarce but we managed a spot each time in the lot adjacent to the Inn.

Prior to the new ownership, we loved the Hanford House, and have been coming here for years. The rooms are still gorgeous, but the new owners have made some disappointing changes. They used to bring scones to your door and have coffee on each floor. The quality of the scones has changed. Instead of the hot breakfast and scones being brought to your door, there is now a continental style breakfast just like a Holiday Inn Express. If you aren’t there early, the food is gone. The breakfast on the weekends is no longer complimentary. You receive a $25 gift voucher for the on-site breakfast. The Hanford House went from having a boutique feel to a standard hotel feel with the new ownership. If ownership is trying to cut costs, they should have increased prices rather than completely change the experience of their guests.

We booked 3 rooms for our family to see the Festival of Lights. We were so excited to this get away. Unfortunately due to the popularity, we had to pay a premium for these rooms, over $900. Yes, this was expensive, but we love this place, but will probably never stay here again due to their cancellation policy. One of our daughters family got COVID 5 days before our booking so they couldn’t go. Our other daughter’s dog got sick, and the vet recommended that they shouldn’t be boarded. My husband and I ended up not going because of the weather. The parade was even canceled. They have a 10 day cancellation policy. They didn’t even offer a discount for future reservation. I understand they are a small business, but we are out a lot of money. I love this place so much, which is why I was very hesitant to write this review. I just want others to be aware in case their plans might change.

Hanford House Bed & Breakfast Inn in Sutter Creek is the nicest B&B that we have ever stayed in! The food was excellent and the rooms are beautiful, and the special attention to details was truly a delight. We were given the 'best' and it was something out of a decorator's magazine. The innkeepers were so helpful and friendly. We will definitely be going back to Hanford House!

For our honeymoon we stayed at Hanford House Bed & Breakfast Inn in the quaint, little town of Sutter Creek. We arrived just before dinnertime and the innkeeper had made a reservation for us at a nice local restaurant for our first dinner as a married couple. This was our first B & B experience and we enjoyed the entire stay!

What an amazing place, tucked away from it all is the Hanford House Inn. My husband and I spent two wonderful nights there and were able to walk to the quaint shops nearby and drive to the many wineries. We can’t wait to go again.
