This hotel has so much potential to be 5 stars. It was recommended to me by a colleague for it's proximity to our Shrewsbury, Massachusetts office and was described by him as "top notch." I definitely agree that it COULD be top notch, but unfortunately, there were a few small issues that really took away from what could have been a 5-star experience. The room I stayed in (fireplace suite) was lovely and had an almost South-Carolinian feel to it. The bathroom, however, smelled strongly of what I can only guess (and hope) were the products they used to clean it. I travel frequently for business and have encountered this smell before so I didn't think much of it and didn't think it was worth mentioning to the front desk. Regardless, it was still an unfortunate, small detail that took away from my stay. That evening, I wandered into the "gym" which was located on the second floor. Upon arriving, I found the lights off, used water cups strewn around the cooler, and the hatch to a ceiling storage space/attic hanging open with a ladder propped up inside it and dim light emanating from the opening. As a young woman, this was somewhat alarming as I had no idea if someone was up there. Not only that but it just looked unsightly and gave the room a very eerie feeling. There were three small, folded towels on a shelf next to a hamper with a black garbage bag inside it. There were no Lysol wipes to be found for cleaning the equipment, either. I'm not sure if the TV worked as I didn't attempt to turn it on but I wouldn't have been surprised if it didn't - the room looked like it hadn't been used in months aside from the used water cups. Again, small details, but they really took away from the overall experience. I went to the on-premise restaurant to have dinner at the bar. The food was delicious (I had the New England Clam Chowder and a slice of the butternut squash cheesecake which was surprisingly good). The service was excellent except for the fact that a large group of young business men and women wandered in around 7pm and were exceptionally loud and rowdy - to the point that the 4-5 people seated near me at the bar were noticeably uncomfortable and annoyed. When one of them asked the bartender if she could ask them to quiet down, she responded "Oh no, I can't do that, I'm just working the bar." I understand that they were a large group (and probably spending a decent amount of money), but it was obvious that the other patrons in the bar area were bothered by the noise. The next morning, I went downstairs for the "continental breakfast" which was also, unfortunately, a disappointment. When I checked in, I was provided a coupon that I was told to present the next morning for breakfast. I assumed this was for a full breakfast as it had my name on it, very clearly stated "continental breakfast" and indicated that one coupon was required per guest. When I sat down, it took 10 minutes before I could get the attention of the only server to get a cup of coffee. There was a buffet of pastries, fruit, and bagels; but nothing along the lines of eggs, waffles, or even yogurt. When the server finally came to my table, I had to ask if there were any additional breakfast selections before she informed me that there was, in fact, a breakfast menu but that those items would have to be paid for separately. As a guest of the hotel, I could select 2 eggs, pancakes or waffles for an additional 5 dollars or I could select something from the menu which was in the $15+ price range. When I was presented with my check for the 2 scrambled eggs I selected, I added $3 gratuity and gave my credit card to the waitress. She brought back 2, new blank receipts with my card that did not include the $3 gratuity that I added. I'm not even sure that she ran my credit card. Normally, I would not have the patience to wait for or squabble over $8, but I needed an accurate receipt for business records. I was able to get a new check and corrected receipt from the front desk but again, small details like this should be non-issues at a hotel that claims to be of 4 and 5 star caliber. I'm normally not one to complain about these sorts of things, but I was really looking forward to my stay at the Beechwood and was so disappointed that it did not live up to the expectations (or previous reviews). At almost $300 a night, one would expect a higher quality experience and much more attention to detail. Individually, the smell in the bathroom, bar experience, the gym, poor breakfast service and lackluster "continental breakfast" may have been non-issues but, unfortunately, the devil is in the details and those details led to a less than desirable experience at a hotel that has so much potential to be outstanding. I will give the Beechwood another try the next time I'm in town as that would only be fair, but I certainly hope that my next experience is better than this one.

My husband and I just stayed at the Beechwood Hotel for a friend's wedding at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden. We were lucky that the bride's family got a room block and did much of the "legwork" for us. I'm so glad that she did. There were a few wedding parties staying at the hotel, but the hotel didn't seem to have any trouble handling the hustle and bustle. We stayed in a spacious king suite and had breakfast the next morning (as part of the room we received a continental breakfast included). Our check in was smooth, and early I might add, and our check out the same. I'm not sure if I'd say that Worcester is a " must see destination", but both the Beechwood Hotel and The Tower Hill Botanic Garden were absolutely lovely for a wedding. Well done!

I stayed at this hotel since it was close to the office I was visiting. Normally I am an hhonors kind of person, but due to my company rate and the outrageous rates at the hhonors properties in the area, I stayed at the Beechwood. The hotel is very nice with updated rooms and great ambiance. I enjoyed my meals there as well, with a good breakfast selection and a nice dinner menu. The only downside was that my refrigerator door was jammed slightly open, but I was not planning to drink anything from the "minibar" as it was, so not a big deal.

My husband and I stayed overnight following a wedding at the nearby Botanical Gardens. The room was spacious and comfortable. Firm mattress, two nice chairs plus a desk & chair. Keurig coffeemaker in the bathroom with ceramic mugs provided. Two luggage racks in the closet, which was especially helpful. Ironing board, hair dryer, and my favorite amenity these days: a wall mounted magnifying mirror in the bathroom. The free wifi was fast and easy to log on. Wedding brunch the morning after in the hotel restaurant was very nice as well. A few reasons for not giving a rating of "excellent": the lighting in the room could have been brighter. My aging eyes appreciate good light (as much as they appreciate the mag mirror), and with the availability of CFL and LED bulbs that cost little to run, there's no reason for hotel rooms to be lit poorly any more. Another negative: insufficient number/not easily accessible power outlets. I had to unplug the nightstand clock in order to keep my phone plugged in/charging nearby. And finally, at 8:30 am, two members of the housekeeping staff were in the next room running the vacuum and talking at the top of their lungs. No, I wasn't still asleep at that hour, but what if I'd wanted to sleep in? We spoke to management about that last one and were assured it's not condoned behavior. The manager was kind enough to reduce our rate due to the inconvenience. Overall, a pleasant stay. I don't anticipate being in the Worcester area anytime soon (if ever), but I would stay here again.
