Came to Casa Del Zorro in August. Despite being extremely hot (rarely dipped below 35C) we still had a great stay here. At this time of year it was very quiet and at times felt we were the only ones at the resort. Plenty of facilities and the pool was really pleasant. The apartment we had was quite small but nicely air conditioned and clean.

Gorgeous grounds, wonderful staff, great food in the restaurants, and fun things to do on site! Pools, tennis courts, yoga, bocce, horseshoes, and even a labyrinth to walk. We were enchanted and so well cared for!

5 star resorts from the big hotels are sterile and cold when compared to this classic, one of a kind place tucked away in the Anza-Borrego desert area of Southern California. Kudos to the staff, Kevin at the Front Desk, Noah, the bellhop, and Juana, the dining hostess and midweek waitress, and the others whose names I did not get, for the smiling service. We were there for two nights, midweek, and the visit was rejuvenating. We had intended to take advantage of the many games and complementary bicycles, but ended up simply admiring the meticulous landscaping interspersed with fountains and a fishpond, and enjoying the privacy of the pool and jacuzzi just outside our door, and the crackling fire in the room at night. And though I did not get to play,,I was also impressed with the quality of the tennis courts, and the small stadium seating area. What fun it would be to host a mini-tournament there! This resort, when owned by the Copley newspaper heiress, had a very high-end clientele. After a long period of changing ownership and subsequent decline, new owners took over 5 years ago, and have done an impressive job of restoration and introducing new improvements. We were very happy with our dining choces as well. From looking at the room menus, one might expect to find three distinct restaurants, but (at least on a Wednesday night, every menu item was available in any dining area. We ordered stuffed shells and blackened mahi-mahi) They were yum! as were the fresh spring mix salads and desert sampler plate. Visitors should look ta the art on the walls in the lobby area, and familiarize themselves with the way big horn sheep blend into the hillsides. Herds may be seen in the wild by the sharp eyed. The Anza Borrego area has a peak travel season in February and March for wildflower viewing, but it is generally comfortable there until June, so that leaves a broad shoulder season for those who can get away. And it is away, which is a large part of its charm. The nearest commercial airports are in Palm Springs and San Diego. Borrego Springs is about a two hour drive from either of them. The town itself has 3000 year round residents and a thriving local arts community. Visitors to the area should leave a day to vist the town and the Gallegos Meadows sculptures, and another to do the Palm Canyon walk. While there are many great hiking trails in the area, the one most visitors take begins at the end of the campground in the state park. It is a rambling, gentle, never boring, 1.5 mile hike into the Palm Canyon oasis at the foot of the mountains. Take water and a hiking stick.

Had heard about La Casa del Zorro for many years, finally had the chance to find out for ourselves. We booked a deluxe room with a fireplace and pool view. The room was large and very well appointed. Some of the furniture was a bit "tired" but not bad. Our bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom had both a shower and tub, along with double sinks and good lighting. The fireplace was a nice touch since we were there during the recent rains. I would have liked a small microwave since the coffee maker didn't make very hot water and we always bring our own instant coffee. We had dinner in the Catania 1 night and breakfast 1 morning, service and the food were good. The prices are within reason for a place like this. One negative was no elevator to the second level and we were not told of this when booking the room. It wasn't an issue for us but our guests were not able to come to our room since one was disabled. Unfortunately we didn't get to use all the services because of weather. The grounds are attractive and very well kept. Will definitely return again.

And I don't mean the Hollywood variety! What an enjoyable get-a-way! The resort itself was quite lovely, well maintained, with large nicely appointed rooms and a very attentive staff. This was absolutely a 5 star experience. Special Thanks to Kevin, Noah, and the staff in the Fox Den. Each of you added to our very enjoyable get-a-way. We look forward to returning soon.
