We two couples had reserved two separate cabins for our stay at Calistoga Ranch, Nov. 22-28. We had previously stayed at Auberge du Soleil, but were told by that property that since extensive renovations were ongoing there we should try Calistoga Ranch. We did and what a huge mistake it was! We made reservations at the Ranch, notwithstanding its stringent and unyielding cancellation policies. Arriving separately by rental car from SFO at about 9:30 pm, the first couple were surprised to be told by the front desk that their assigned cabin (room 125 with hot tub) was not ready! At that late hour? How did this come about? No apology or excuse was given. Did the Calistoga Ranch forget that they were coming? My wife and I, the second couple, arrived about 11:30 pm, only to find out that our two room cabin (109) was separated by an open patio which was was much less than attractive, unkept and unclean. This configuration of the cabin’s two rooms was discombobating and a pain from the get-go! For instance, there was a tiny mini-fridge, and a fake logs fireplace in one room, while the second room had little space for its king bed, with cheapo polyester sheets and a dirty, dusty and squeeky wooden plank floor. There was virtually nowhere in the tiny bedroom for our luggage and this room had the single shower in this “rustic” cabin. (To boot, the shower was cranky and had poor water flow). Housekeeping was amicable, but inept. For instance, the creaky, shaky entrance door to the two-room cabin patio had a broken lock, which remained in that status until the last day of our stay. Our safety during our stay was thus compromised and resulting in constant worry. Room service was skimpy, and sophomoricly thrown-together; the prepared ordeurves and such lacked good taste and were embarassingly unattractive to our day guests! The sky-high prices of admission for these shabby, ill-equipped (water/wine glasses were never replaced except on demand) and out-of-date cabins were nothing short of highway robbery. Our 5-day day at Calistoga Ranch was a wretched and huge mistake, one that will unfortunately be long-remembered and regretted. The Napa and Sonoma Valleys are places of much beauty with numerous good restaurants, fine accomodations and gorgeous vineyards. The Calistoga Ranch, to put it mildly, is a shabby eyesore and exception to the norm. R Hearin, New Orleans, LA 12/8/17

We had the most amazing time at Calistoga Ranch. Everything from our check in to check out was flawless. Staff is so kind and lnowlegable. I worked with Erin and concierge and Elyse at he food and beverage Dept to plan our anniversary celebration and also to book winery visits. These ladies were amazing to work with. They understood our vision and booked All services such as the nicest photographer, make up artist to setting up the most beautiful venue in the Ranch’s vineyard for our anniversary dinner celebration. Chef Joseph is amazing! Unforgettable food and the best and the most attractive seasonal menu both at the Lake House Reataurant and also Dr our anniversary dinner as well as our cooking class which was so much fun!! Thank you Chef Joseph. The grounds are beautiful. We hiked at different hiking trails everyday. Beautiful views!! We can’t wait to come back and visit everyone! I hope it will be sometime soon. Thank you all. SJP

Our stay began with the resort accommodating our arrival time. Although check in is technically at 4:00 PM, they had our room ready for us at 1:00 PM. We were very appreciative that they were so flexible. Their concierge staff, Gloria and Erin, were also very helpful in making various reservations for us. Regarding the accommodations I felt the set up was not ideal. We had two separate rooms divided by an outdoor deck. I am sure that during warmer climes this is not a problem but when it is very cold out, moving from one room to another is not all that comfortable .Consequently, we confined our selves mostly to the bedroom which was very small. We actually had to put my husband’s suitcase in the separate living area as we didn’t have enough room for two suitcases in the bedroom. Finally, the separate living room had a very strong cigar smell. Obviously previous guests had smoked in it and it had a strong stale smell.

Wonderful resort that catered to our every needs from setting up winery and dinner reservations to spa treatments. The staff were wonderful and always helpful. While we only attempted one of the 3 trails, we can’t wait to come back and attempt the remaining two. Do not wait and just book your stay if you want something away from civilization while being a quick 15 min drive to St. Helena and Calistoga.
