Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, New York

Considered by many one of the best hotels of its kind in the country, Whiteface Lodge is nestled in Adirondack Park. This six-million-acre recreation area in upstate New York has drawn nature lovers for decades.

In the heart of the park on Lake Placid, the lodge evokes the region's 19th-century heyday with a wood-beamed exterior, cozy carpet-strewn sitting rooms and cast-iron fireplaces. I've been wanting to stay at the property for a few years. It FAR exceeded my expectations. We had a superior room. I can't say enough about it. Huge kitchen and living space, large balcony overlooking the woods, two bathrooms, fireplace, and a comfortable bed. Once we checked in, someone came to our room to offer us ice service and came back for turndown service and gave us fresh baked cookies. The room was immaculate. All common areas were beautiful and clean. The free breakfast in the morning was outstanding and the breakfast area was very rustic and beautiful. Even though the weather was horrible during our stay, there is so much to do here. Pool tables, air hockey, two lane bowling alley, hiking trails, was amazing! My favorite was a wildlife refuge that came in on a Saturday evening. They brought 3 animals and shared stories. I can't wait to go back. (just wish it wasn't so expensive......but you get some much for what you pay for).

I rented a 3 bedroom condo for my birthday-it was awesome..truly an Adirondack experience..The rooms were decorated perfect..beds so comfy...we used the hot tub and even had cocktails delivered to us there! Stopped to make smores at a fire where the supplies were ready for us!! At dinner, the guitar player even sang Happy Birthday to me!! Great time was had by all...

Great accommodations, facilities and staff. Close to countless fishing and hiking venues. Friendliest doormen around. Ian is a fountain of local knowledge, and more than willing to share. Concierge Anna is top notch.

My husband and I booked a corner room in the Clubhouse for our Honeymoon. We later heard that a single room in the Clubhouse is difficult to book because it's often reserved for events, but I think the specific days we booked/time of year/honeymoon status helped us out. Our room welcomed us with wine and chocolate covered strawberries!! The room was very spacious for the two of us with a bed, armoire, couch, TV, fireplace, kitchenette, dining table, and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. The views from our corner room were spectacular! Our windows overlooked the outdoor heated pool and hot tubs, the Lodge, and the mountain range behind it. It looked so dreamy after a light snow! We, of course, tried the heated pool. It was an amazing experience to swim through the tunnel to outside... to have a light snow falling on our heads while we swam outdoors! Unforgettable. I booked a massage and facial at the Spa, which was very comfortable and relaxing. The staff was welcoming and personalized each experience to my needs. My husband and I often enjoyed relaxing by the fire in the Kanu Lounge, and celebrated our marriage with a delicious dinner in the Kanu dining room. Overall, the trip may have been pricey, but was so worth the splurge for our honeymoon. I would love to return again someday!

This is one of the nicest and most beautiful resorts we have ever experienced. The suites were large and beautifully finished in a wooden lodge style. The lodge itself was stunning with great amenities. I would go back in a moment. We had one bad surprise. We had to depart a day earlier from a 5 day stay reserved on Expedia. When checking out, we were told there would be a one-night stay penalty for an early departure. We have never seen such a thing in years of travel and we could not find this policy disclosed on the web-site or Expedia. Make your reservations carefully.
