Las Balsas in Neuquen, Argentina
In the unspoiled Argentine Patagonia, there's a place of intimacy, tranquility and captivating appeal. Las Balsas is embraced by a glorious natural parkland setting, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and Nahuel Hapui Lake. A Relais & Chateaux affiliate, this retreat features just 15 rooms, each done in its own simple, tasteful style. Discover, perhaps, the pleasures of a claw-foot tub, the seduction of a window seat gazing over the water, or the charm of bookshelves crafted from a wooden boat.
Each day when you wake, you'll be drawn outdoors. Explore the park's trails on foot, bike or horseback or hit the slopes at nearby Bayo Hill ski resort. That the hotel has its own beach and dock makes it a wonderful base for canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Or enjoy the seasonal sport fishing, which yields brown and rainbow trout. As for creature comforts, pampering comes in many forms, from the excellent wine cellar that complements meals to the divine spa, offering an array of indulgent treatments.

Reviews for Las Balsas
We stayed at this fantastic lake-side hotel last week. The weather was beautiful which helped - the hotel, its staff and the cuisine were all 5*! We can not fault this hotel experience and will definitely be back! The only problem was because it was so special we did less exploring as the place and its environs kept us entranced! Thank you Ignacio and Bruno and colleagues! See you all next year!

Best property location directly facing a quiet and peaceful lake. The junior suite was extremely comfortable with a great view of the lake and convenient for all activities and meals. Ignacio was an incredible resource- friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and very helpful in planning all our daily activities. He clearly understands hospitality and goes out of his way to make sure he address all your needs. Meals were outstanding, including their snack menu. The property is a short drive into the town we’re there are opportunities to explore other dining options, though it would be difficult to find food better prepared or more desirable anywhere. Their chef is a genius! The spa and infinity pool are dry appealing with more than adequate gym for those who are looking for a workout while present. Our experience at Las Balsa was and will be unforgettable.
This hotel had very positive reviews and photos looked great and it was priced on the higher side for Bariloche area. We expected to have a pleasant stay. The hotel is tired. Our room was very small and outdated with stained carpet and furniture. The bathroom was small and barely fit one person. We are normal weight people. Mold in parts of the bathroom. To top off, one clean towel had extensive amount of dried blood on it. The front desk staff seemingly nice and polite but did not care about making it better for us as far giving us another room, a free glass of wine or an apology for giving us their worst room. We stayed for 4 nites. They had many check outs while we stayed there and never offered us a different room not even at a higher rate. The spa/gym had 70s equipment, the spa shower was almost dangerous and crusty. Positives were the staff in the restaurant, the food was good. The pool was warm and lovely. The stray cat, we named Linda, because she was pretty was very friendly and kept us company while we were at the pool. I would not recommend this hotel.

This hotel is in a beautiful setting and we were so excited to stay here for 4 nights. They put us into the smallest room they had which was the size of a room on a ship. If I could have left I would have. This doesn't hold up to the standards for relaischateau hotel.

Excellent hotel in a secluded bay. Pure peace, with super views and excellent service (attentive concierge service sorted out my flight delays). Most comfortable bed and linens ever! Bathroom a little small. Indoor/outdoor infinity pool and fitness area is excellent (even if top-range complex showers need attention). Food some of the best ever experienced (top Spanish chef when we visited), though dinner menu choice after 2/3 days is limited. If hiring a car, suggest a 4x4, as the approach from the main road is a dirt track with potholes.
