About the Hotel

Guests gather with microbrews each night around a fire pit at Sparrows Lodge. There are no phones or TVs in the rooms – this is where you want to come to unwind and remember what it’s like to kick through the grass in the great outdoors, even if these great outdoors are conveniently located just a few minutes’ walk from downtown Palm Springs. MGM actor Don Castle built the ranch in 1951, and it became one of the original Hollywood retreats (Bewitched actress Elizabeth Montgomery got married in the barn). Sparrow Lodge is a quiet place where people know your name and serenity prevails by the saltwater pool.

A big disappointment - overrated and poorly managed!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The concept of the style of accommodation could deliver a great experience. Just massively let down by poor management and lack of service and attention to detail. Alex the ‘General Manager’ micro manages and has left his team with no intuition or empowerment to prioritise the guest experience over himself. They came across as can’t be bothered. The exception was the young girl with blond hair. Breakfast was a total joke - limited choice which quickly ran out and asking for items to be replenished was often rudely refused as that days allocation had gone!! Staff stood behind the breakfast bar with empty bowl, cup plate and cutlery stations - even when asked only handing out enough for you so the next guest has to ask again. Boiled eggs so hard they were inedible! Dinner was also chaotic - other guests complained about service whilst we were seated. Burrata and tomato starter was tasteless and the Mule was disgusting - sauce on the chicken was cold and congealed as it had stood before being served - the rest of the dish was bland and very amateurish. Certainly not worthy of being in the Michelin guide. The accommodation is suitable only for a weekend or short stay with extremely limited storage. Bedding was grey not pristine white and v tired. Plastic glasses round the pool were very scratched and often not suitable for the drink. Most of this could be corrected by getting a new professional manager - not Alex - he’s out if his depth. And the owners spending a bit of money to refresh the place.

Hands down, best hotel in Palm Springs!

Sparrow's Lodge is nothing short of perfection down to the smallest of details. The rooms are gorgeous (with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at a hotel!), beautifully curated and so relaxing. The Barn Kitchen's food is fresh, delicious and you cannot beat being able to walk from your room to a Michelin restaurant. The team at Sparrow's truly delivered top notch hospitality. They made our trip absolutely amazing and I cannot say enough good things about their service.

Wonderful stay for our business trip. The team was so helpful and the place was beautiful! We had some very early mornings and they were more than accommodating to ensure everything went smoothly. I also got a lovely massage from Steven who is so knowledgeable and great!

Retro-chic Awesomeness

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

What a cool place. Sparrows Lodge just has a great vibe. The rooms were great, very comfortable. However, the grounds and it's restaurant (the Barn Kitchen) are what makes Sparrows Lodge such a memorable experience. The food is excellent and the garden setting is very chill, retro-chic. We stayed there three nights and ate on site two of them (which we never do) because we enjoyed it so much. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Beautiful Stay at the Quiet and Relaxing Sparrows Lodge

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My wife and I stayed at Sparrows Lodge in Palm Springs for her birthday on March 17 and 18th, and we loved this small, intimate boutique hotel. The Lodge was originally built as a barn in 1952, and it still maintains its vintage, rustic charm, while at the same time feeling like an exclusive five star resort. We stayed in a poolside room, which is what I’d recommend. The room was spacious, with a beautiful bathroom and shower, very comfortable queen size bed, and a private patio with wooden fan back chairs and a hammock. And even though it was poolside, it’s so quiet that we never heard a sound from anyone else hanging out by the pool. All the poolside rooms also have two shaded outdoor chaise lounges right outside the room, should you want shade or just more privacy. The pool itself is small but very nice, and seemed to be the perfect temperature. Although it was only around eighty degrees the sun was hot, and I therefore took many dips throughout the day! We had dinner at Sparrows Lodge on the night of my wife’s actual birthday. The food was excellent, and the outdoor patio setting very romantic. But maybe the best thing about this experience was the incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff at Sparrows, meaning the general manager Alex, Carolina, Emily and Abby! It’s a very informal vibe with the hotel staff, almost like you’re staying at their private home, and it seems like everyone does everything. For example, Abby was our waitress for dinner, and then later that night when I realized that I inadvertently put in the wrong code for our room safe, deprogramming it so that I couldn’t open it, she came to our room and rectified the safe issue in about two minutes! Big kudos to Alex and his team of happy warriors at Sparrows Lodge for making a great vacation all that much better!
